PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Julian McGavin (ranked 5508 p4p, 2738 weight class) and Yuki Shojumaru (ranked 0 p4p, 157 weight class). McGavin comes to the cage accompanied by Jersey Shore intro song. Julian McGavin has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Julian McGavin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 1, fighting out of The Island, Yuki Shojumaru!
The judges for this bout are Winston Alpacca, Michael Johnstone and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McGavin keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Shojumaru.
Shojumaru fakes high and swings low for a body shot but McGavin manages to avoid it.
McGavin tries to counter with a takedown but Shojumaru is quick to defend against it.
The fight stays on the outside here - McGavin looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Shojumaru uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Shojumaru stuffs the takedown attempt from McGavin. McGavin gets slowly back to his feet.
Shojumaru thuds a left hand into McGavin's body.
A jab from McGavin finds it's way through Shojumaru's defenses.
Shojumaru just misses with a punch to the body.
McGavin misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Shojumaru misses with a wild body shot.
Shojumaru looks to score with a jab to the body but McGavin is just out of range.
McGavin takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.

McGavin ducks under a wild hook from Shojumaru.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Shojumaru loads up on a big right hand but McGavin slips the punch.

That's one minute gone in the round.
McGavin takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Shojumaru defends well against a solid takedown attempt from McGavin.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Julian McGavin. That's going to take a lot out of him.
McGavin uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Shojumaru.
Shojumaru looks to score with a jab to the body but McGavin is just out of range.
Shojumaru paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
McGavin will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Shojumaru let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land.
Shojumaru with a hook.

Shojumaru lands a big right hand that sends McGavin crashing to the mat! Shojumaru stays standing though and waves McGavin back to his feet!

McGavin is rocked!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Nice takedown defense from Shojumaru. No joy for McGavin on that attempt.
Oh McGavin is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
McGavin shoots in looking for a takedown. Shojumaru tries to sprawl out of it but McGavin keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Shojumaru manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
McGavin bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
McGavin seems to have got his legs back now.
McGavin displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Shojumaru throws out the jab.

McGavin shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than McGavin was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

McGavin tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no McGavin has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Shojumaru dodges the ground and pound from McGavin.

McGavin is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Shojumaru is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Shojumaru tries to buck McGavin off but McGavin is having none of it.
Shojumaru looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

McGavin working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

McGavin thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
McGavin trying to control the action but Shojumaru is working from the bottom.

McGavin is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Shojumaru knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

McGavin is working to tighten his grip on Shojumaru's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Shojumaru has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but McGavin is really squeezing tight and eventually Shojumaru passes out! McGavin breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Julian McGavin!
A very excited looking Julian McGavin rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
