PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Yawa Kiang (ranked 5949 p4p, 5803 weight class) and Way Nada (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Yawa Kiang!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Way Nada!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Alan Glass and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Horrible takedown attempt by Kiang or perhaps it was just good defense by Nada, which made it look bad.
Kiang dives in and grabs Nada's left leg, looking for a takedown. Nada pushes down on Kiang's head and hops out.

Nada shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Kiang is trying to defend but Nada finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Nada perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

That's one minute gone in the round.
It looks like Nada might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Kiang is trying to control but can't.
Nada throwing shots but Kiang is blocking nicely.
Nada is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Nada thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Kiang's head.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Kiang looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Nada is fending him off so far but Kiang persists. Nope, Nada circles away and we're back to standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Yawa Kiang. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Nada shoots in for a takedown but Kiang shows good takedown defense.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Nada looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Kiang!
Nada controlling from side mount.
Kiang is not content to let Nada control the position.
Nada taking a breather here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Kiang sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Way Nada dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!

Kiang scores with a nice body kick.
Nada shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Kiang but Kiang pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Kiang shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Nada as he avoids it easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Nada closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Kiang did well to prevent Nada getting side control.
Kiang moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kiang managing to control the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Nada postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Nada has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Nada with a flurry of punches that miss.
Nada is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Nada dives in for a single leg takedown but Kiang sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Nada closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Kiang did well to prevent Nada getting side control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kiang keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.
Nada keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Nada wants to control but Kiang is keeping him busy.
Nada not doing much here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Way Nada showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

A looping hook to the body misses from Kiang. Nada does a little dance to reset his feet.
Nada replies with a solid counter kick to the body but Kiang blocks it well.

Nada gets a takedown into half guard.
Nada takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kiang has his hands clasped together around Nada's back. He's all about the action.
Nada is controlling the pace.
Kiang is looking to improve his position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Nada controlling the action here.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Nada has his takedown stuffed
and Kiang counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Nada gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Kiang trying to control but Nada is working from the bottom.
Nada wants to sweep but no luck.
Kiang is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Way Nada has got the better of the ground game so far.
Nada controlling Kiang's posture.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Kiang slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Yawa Kiang has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Way Nada is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

And that's the end of the fight!
Yawa Kiang showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Nada has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
