PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Danny Stamis (ranked 4835 p4p, 4779 weight class) and Haroon Bloggs (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Stamis comes to the cage accompanied by Full House Opening Theme. Haroon Bloggs has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Danny Stamis's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Danny Stamis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Haroon Bloggs!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Tatsuya Matsuyama and Shirou Masuda.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bloggs tries to land a front kick but Stamis steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Bloggs closes the distance and clinches up with Stamis, looking for a takedown. Bloggs pushes Stamis against the cage but Stamis circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Stamis shoots in and bounces Bloggs off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Stamis loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Bloggs avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Bloggs has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Stamis can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Bloggs has his foot on Stamis's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Stamis works his way back into a safe position though.

Stamis distracts Bloggs with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Stamis stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Bloggs swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Bloggs looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Bloggs has momentary wrist control but Stamis slips an elbow through the middle.
Stamis throws an elbow that misses. Bloggs uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Stamis's guard. Nice move by Bloggs!

Stamis looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Bloggs trying to stand up but can't free himself from Stamis's guard.
Stamis utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Stamis has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Bloggs tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Stamis defends well and Bloggs ends up having to push Stamis into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Bloggs shoots for a takedown but Stamis saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Danny Stamis has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Haroon Bloggs.

Stamis shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Stamis showed some decent athleticism there.

Bloggs is looking for a sweep. Stamis is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Stamis is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Bloggs!

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Stamis is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Stamis gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Stamis gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Stamis apologises and we restart here on the feet.
Stamis leaves Bloggs with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Stamis lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.


Stamis got a little sloppy there for a moment and Bloggs has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Stamis has managed to get both his arms back between Bloggs's legs - danger averted.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Stamis creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Bloggs sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

Stamis seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Stamis looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Bloggs with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
