PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Adam Spechal (ranked 5525 p4p, 4150 weight class) and Muhammed Baird (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Spechal kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Plzenskej Shit. Muhammed Baird has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Adam Spechal!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Muhammed Baird!
The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Roosa Järviläinen and Marco Blurström.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Spechal tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Baird counters with a left and a right that stings Spechal.

Baird decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Baird throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Spechal throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Spechal avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Baird.
Spechal keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Spechal is trying to get back to full guard.
Spechal is looking to control Baird's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Spechal avoid being mounted?
Spechal wants to get back to his feet.

Baird is looking for a kimura here.

Spechal is looking to escape.
Spechal is trying to maintain the position but Baird is very close to passing his half guard.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Spechal thows a left - swing and a miss!

Baird throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Spechal was covering up waiting for the punch and Baird finishes the takedown easily into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Baird slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Spechal keeping full guard, as Baird tries to pass.
Spechal wants to stand but Baird is controlling the position.
Baird is looking to work some ground and pound but Spechal has wrist control.
Baird really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Spechal. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Spechal is looking to stand up but Baird isn't so interested in that idea.

Spechal can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Baird controls the pace.
Baird wants to control from the top but Spechal keeps moving.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Spechal tries to close the distance and clinch up but Baird swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Spechal tries to clinch up but Baird circles away and keeps his distance.

Spechal moves into range and clinches up with Baird.
Baird wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Spechal tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Baird just stands there and leans against the cage.

Spechal lands a couple of digs.
Spechal wants to control from the top but Baird keeps moving.
Baird pulls Spechal in close to his closed guard and prevents Spechal from doing any damage or advancing position.

Spechal trying to control the position from guard on top but Baird is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Spechal stopping the sweep attempt from Baird.
Spechal landing some decent shots from guard.
Spechal working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Baird keeping moving, preventing Spechal from controlling successfully.
Spechal with a flurry of punches that miss.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Baird can do anything to dispel that myth.
Spechal working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Muhammed Baird dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.


Baird shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Baird showed some decent athleticism there.

Spechal manages to escape and get back to his feet!

Spechal gets caught napping as Baird dives in and scores a takedown. Spechal manages to retain guard.

Baird is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Baird looking for a sweep. Not yet Baird, not yet.
Baird throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Baird holds on and takes a little breather.
Baird has a closed guard, preventing Spechal from standing up.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

Baird fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Spechal to the ground. Baird is now in Spechal's guard.

Spechal uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Adam Spechal is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Spechal looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Baird!
Baird tries to buck Spechal off but Spechal is having none of it.

Spechal is putting a hurting on Baird here, landing some big shots from side control.
Spechal has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Spechal decides to stand up, so the ref orders Baird to his feet.
Baird misses with a kick to the body.

Spechal gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Baird is breathing heavily.
Baird stays in close to Spechal's body and controls the position.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Spechal is on top in guard.

Baird looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Spechal drops back looking for a leg! Baird is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Baird manages to kick Spechal off! Spechal jumps back into Baird's guard.
Baird looking to hit a scissor sweep but Spechal is one step ahead there.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Spechal tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Baird paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Baird follows through with a counter body kick but it doesn't land.
Spechal fails to land with a series of punches.

Spechal manages to break the clinch.

Baird scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

Spechal throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!
This has been an exciting period of action!

Baird shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Spechal kicks off Baird and gets to his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Spechal dives in for a single leg takedown but Baird sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Baird has picked Spechal up - he's going for a ride! Baird dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Spechal looks like he's trying to stand up.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Baird is trying to control the action in half guard but Spechal is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Spechal trying to hold on to Baird's head to control him but Baird postures up.
Spechal gets back to full guard.
Spechal not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Baird wants to control from the top but Spechal keeps moving.

Spechal has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Baird has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.

Baird is trying to trip Spechal. He has hold of a leg but Spechal is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Baird persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Spechal is on top in guard.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Spechal wants to get up but he can't break Baird's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Baird tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Spechal working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.

Baird is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Baird is trying to keep Spechal in close.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
A nice leg kick lands there from Spechal.
Baird circles away from the clinch attempt.

Baird moves into the clinch.
Spechal is trying to force a seperation but Baird has the dominant position.
Baird keeps control of Spechal as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
A frustrated look appears on Baird's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Baird.

And that's the end of the fight!
Adam Spechal showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Spechal has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
