This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the featherweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 29 wins and 14 losses; Reijo Halli! And in the blue corner, fighting out of London, with a TWGC record of 31 wins and 27 losses; Able Archer!
The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Thiago Cunha and Edson Gomes.


The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way.

Archer clinches with his opponent.
Archer tries to pull guard but Halli holds him up against the cage and eventually Archer drops back down to his feet.
Archer jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Halli walks away with a smile on his face. Archer gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Archer fails with an attempt to clinch.

Halli closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Archer did well to prevent Halli getting side control.

Archer is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Archer has his hands clasped together around Halli's back. He's all about the action.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Halli content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

Archer is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Halli has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Archer wants to hit a sweep here but Halli passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Archer there!

Halli takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Archer stops Halli from taking his back. Still, being mounted isn't any better.

Halli avoids the attempt from Archer to control.
Archer keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

Archer tries to lock up and control but Halli gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Halli controlling the position easily from mount.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Halli has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Archer is desperately trying to improve his position but Halli has a good base and remains in mount.

Halli content just to control the position here.
Archer tries to lock up and control but Halli gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Archer is wriggling around trying to escape.
Archer keeps trying to improve his position.

Archer holds of for dear life.
Archer wants to control but Halli is having none of it.
Archer tries to improve his position but instead Halli has taken his back!

You can see the frustration on Archer's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
Archer wants to control his opponent's hands but Halli gets his hands free.
Archer tries to escape but Halli has the hooks in and won't let him break free.

Archer just trying to survive but Halli is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.
Archer manages to reverse the position and now he's in Halli's guard. Nice work there by Archer.

Archer stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Halli swivels though and keeps the full guard.
My spies in Jed's Gym inform me that Archer has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

Archer is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Halli is adopting a defensive guard.
This is a sustained period of stalling by Halli.

Halli keeping moving, preventing Archer from controlling successfully.
Archer not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Archer passes Halli's left leg - he's now in half guard.

Halli takes the fight on points by 8 to 2.
Reijo Halli retains his featherweight title!
After the fight, Reijo Halli was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
