PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Oscar Gage (ranked 416 p4p, 1027 weight class) and Kevin Mamar (ranked 58 p4p, 136 weight class). Mamar has chosen Slipkibieber - Psychosocial Babe as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Oscar Gage!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kevin Mamar!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Tiny Johnson and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gage throws a jab when Mamar was well out of range.
Gage lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Gage scores with a hook.
Gage shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Gage shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Gage showed some decent athleticism there.
Mamar is looking to get back to is feet but Gage passes into side control.
Gage is looking to take a break and control but Mamar is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Mamar is trying to get back to his feet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Gage is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Mamar is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Gage swings around for an armbar but Mamar sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Gage's guard.

Gage is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Mamar is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

Mamar must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Mamar accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Mamar avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Gage looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Gage looking for subs off his back but Mamar has passed one foot through into half guard.
Mamar seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Mamar looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Mamar takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Gage wants to control but Mamar is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Gage wants to get back to full guard but Mamar has passed into side control.
Mamar wants to lay and pray for a moment but Gage keeps working.

Gage manages to work his way to half guard, despite Mamar's best efforts.
Mamar content to control rather than advance.

Gage looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Mamar looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Mamar wants to control but Gage is keeping him busy.
Gage on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Gage tries to roll over but Mamar keeps him under control.
Mamar is figuring out what he wants to do next.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Mamar wants to get back to his feet.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Gage throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

and Mamar counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

It looks like Oscar Gage has been cut.
Gage shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Mamar as he avoids it easily.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Kevin Mamar will probably get the nod.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!

Mamar wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Gage definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.

Gage takes the fight into the clinch.

Gage is trying to trip Mamar. He has hold of a leg but Mamar is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Gage persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Mamar wants to sweep but no luck.
Gage is looking to pass into half guard but Mamar pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Mamar is in guard.


Gage has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Mamar can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Mamar trying to control the position from guard on top but Gage is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Mamar avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Mamar wants to stand but Gage has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Gage working for a triangle but Mamar defends it easily.

Gage looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Mamar has picked Gage up and slammed him! Gage can't keep hold of the triangle and Mamar manages to pass to side control!

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Mamar taking a breather here.
Gage is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Gage sneaks back into half guard.
Mamar is controlling the pace.
Gage wants to control but Mamar is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Kevin Mamar has got the better of the ground game so far.
Mamar is trying to control the action in half guard but Gage is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Gage looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Gage tries to roll over but Mamar keeps him under control.
Gage is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Mamar's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Mamar's back!
Mamar staying busy and making it hard for Gage to control.
Mamar looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.

Gage has the hooks in and he's looking for a rear naked choke here. Mamar is defending well but eventually Gage manages to get an arm under the chin and he's locked on the RNC! Mamar has no choice but to tap now! He does! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:18 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Oscar Gage!

Our winner, Oscar Gage, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
