PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Ameri Can (ranked 5158 p4p, 2026 weight class) and Darken Rahl (ranked 409 p4p, 223 weight class). Can comes to the cage accompanied by For Heavy Metal we will die!. On his way into the cage it seems that Ameri Can has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Ameri Can seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 25 - 16 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Ameri Can!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 12 - 1, fighting out of New York, Darken Rahl!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Daniel Franklin and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rahl misses the shot to the body.
Rahl bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Rahl finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
No joy there for Rahl, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Can waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Rahl.
Can needs to keep his hands up - Rahl had a free shot at his head there.
Rahl scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Can doesn't seem bothered though.
Good exchange - Rahl coming out on top.
Can misses with an uppercut. Rahl saw that one coming.
Rahl throws a jab when Can was well out of range.
Rahl throws a jab but it's blocked by Can.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Can lands a jab to the head.
Can misses with a wild body shot.
Rahl feints the counter takedown.
Can fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Rahl manages to avoid it.
Can looks to land a left hand but Rahl moved out of range nicely.

Rahl darts in and clinches Can up against the cage.
Can taking a breather.
Rahl is looking to break free of the clinch but Can has double underhooks.

Rahl breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Can pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Can misses with a head kick.
Can throws a series of punches but Rahl moves out of range.
And Rahl tries to counter it with a takedown but Can pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Rahl ducks under a wild hook from Can.

Rahl darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Rahl thuds his right hand into Can's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Rahl fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Can, pushing him back against the cage.
Rahl lands a left hand that snaps the head of Can backwards.
Rahl stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
Can blocking some punches.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Rahl takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

Can tries to throw a body punch but Rahl avoids it by throwing Can back against the cage.

Can moves forwards but Rahl connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Can throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
Can throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
And Rahl tries to counter it with a takedown but Can pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Rahl throws a shot from downtown. Can moves away and avoids it.

Rahl closes the distance and clinches.
Rahl slowing the pace effectively.

Rahl pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Rahl avoids the body shot from Can.
Rahl tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Rahl throws a leg kick that misses.
Rahl tried to score with a low kick but Can checks it.
Rahl connects with a single shot there.
Can throws a shot from downtown. Rahl moves away and avoids it.
Rahl clobbers Can with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.

Good standup being displayed there by Rahl as he connects with a hook.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Can throws a looping overhand right but Rahl ducks down to avoid it.
Rahl takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.

Rahl pushes Can up against the cage in a clinch.
Rahl blocks an elbow strike.

Rahl manages to break the clinch.
Rahl checks a leg kick nicely.
Rahl throws out a loose jab but Can uses good head movement to avoid it.
Can scores with a body shot.
Can with a body punch. A glancing blow.
Rahl drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Can takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Can throws a nice outside leg kick.
Rahl uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Darken Rahl dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.

Can throws a body punch but Rahl moves out of range.
Can throws a head kick that misses

and Rahl counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Rahl decides to stand and escape the position.

Rahl fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Can, pushing him back against the cage.
Can lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
Can being controlled against the cage.
We are yet to see a takedown attempt from Rahl in the fight. On paper you would think he is the more dominant ground fighter so let's see if these unusual tactics pay off.

The referee is keeping an eye on Rahl - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Rahl has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Rahl has been looking to improve his clinch game in recent weeks. Can seems to have the measure of him in the clinch so far, so let's see if Rahl can turn it around.

Rahl tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.

Rahl effectively controlling the action here.
Can can't find room to land a body shot as Rahl controls the action.
Rahl doesn't land with the attempted body shot.

Rahl lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Can or not.
Rahl will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Can up against the cage.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
Can wants to stall.
Rahl throws a punch but it's blocked by Can.
Can tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.

Can breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Rahl tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Can manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Rahl uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Can.

Rahl wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Can swings away with a leg kick that misses.
And Rahl tries to counter it with a takedown but Can pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Rahl cracks Can with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.

Rahl breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Can drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Rahl moves away from the strike by Can.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Can uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Rahl.
Can appeared to be looking to counter that last move with a leg kick.
No joy there for Rahl, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Rahl closes the distance and pushes Can back into the cage.
An uppercut to the body lands inside from Rahl.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Darken Rahl showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!

Can will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Can looks to land a combination but Rahl avoids it well.
And Rahl tries to counter it with a takedown but Can pushes his down on his head and steps out.

Rahl fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Can on the side of the head.
Can takes a swing at Rahl's ribcage but misses.
Rahl throws a right hand that Can ducks under and follows up with a left that Can also avoids with ease.
Rahl scores with a nice head shot.
Can throws a sloppy head kick and Rahl moves out of range easily.
Can misses with an attempted mid kick.
Rahl feints the counter takedown.
Can thumps Rahl with a low kick.
Can tries to work over Rahl's front leg with a kick but Rahl checks it.
Rahl bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Can has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Rahl lands a nice hook to Can's body. Can takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Ameri Can has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Can takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Donk. Rahl catches Can right on the button with a cross.

Rahl wants to clinch up but Can keeps it at a distance.

Can creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Rahl's defenses.

Rahl changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.

Darken Rahl comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Rahl has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Darken Rahl really struggled to get his t-shirt on before his hand was raised. Making sure that Conquer logo gets some air time is pretty tricky when you're all sweaty.
