Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Kai Ayres (ranked 6328 p4p, 4522 weight class) and Santos Mixel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 3 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Kai Ayres! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Santos Mixel! The judges for this bout are Ben Zyskovitsi, Marco Blurström and Anni Minnemäki.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ayres throws a half hearted mid kick. Ayres fails with the takedown. Ayres tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Mixel defends well and Ayres ends up having to push Mixel into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. Mixel prevents Ayres from breaking the clinch. Mixel tries to throw a body punch but Ayres avoids it by throwing Mixel back against the cage. Ayres drags the fight down to the ground.
Ayres has his foot on Mixel's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Mixel works his way back into a safe position though. Mixel stands up from guard. Let's bang! Ayres throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Mixel was covering up waiting for the punch and Ayres finishes the takedown easily into guard. Mixel has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Ayres has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage. Both guys are working to get underhooks.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mixel jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Ayres walks away with a smile on his face. Mixel gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Mixel should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete. Ayres takes the fight into the clinch. Mixel fails to pull guard.
Mixel jumps guard but Ayres turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing. Kai Ayres has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Santos Mixel. Mixel wants a takedown.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows. Ayres jumps into guard, dragging Mixel to the mat.
Ayres on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Ayres tries to get out of the position. Ayres managing to control the position. Mixel working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Mixel sitting in guard here, content to control. Mixel wants to control from the top but Ayres keeps moving. Mixel with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. Ayres has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall. Mixel wants to control from the top but Ayres keeps moving. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Ayres has Mixel pulled in close to control his posture.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ayres tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Mixel swivels and escapes. Ayres scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. Ayres wants to stand but Mixel has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now. Mixel punching from the bottom.
Mixel gets back to full guard.
Mixel is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Mixel keeping full guard, as Ayres tries to pass.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Mixel has control of Ayres's left arm, preventing Ayres from doing any damage. Mixel trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. Ayres wants to stand and escape but instead Mixel has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Mixel has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Ayres looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Mixel tries to free his leg and advance position but Ayres is retaining full guard. Ayres trying to control the position here. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Santos Mixel will probably get the nod. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Ayres tried to score with a low kick but Mixel checks it. Ayres closes the distance and pushes Mixel back into the cage. Mixel wants to break the clinch but can't.
A short uppercut from Ayres. Ayres just leaning against Mixel, taking a breather. Mixel jumps guard but Ayres turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing. Mixel escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Ayres closes this distance looking for a takedown but Mixel circles away. Mixel throws a head kick but Ayres moves out of range.
Ayres throws a counter high kick but Mixel was just alert enough to avoid it. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Mixel is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Ayres. Mixel shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Ayres as he jumps to the side. Ayres manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Mixel on his heels. He'll look to pass Mixel's guard now, I'm sure. Ayres knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Mixel on the ground.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ayres looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Ayres throws a strike but Mixel rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. Mixel postures up in Ayres's guard and throws a big left but Ayres blocks it. We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Mixel has eaten all the pies! Ayres looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Mixel throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Ayres works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Mixel loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Mixel trying to control but Ayres is working from the bottom. Ayres lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard. Ayres controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Mixel escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Ayres gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ayres throwing strikes but missing. Mixel looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Mixel is breathing heavily. Ayres is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. Ayres has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
That's four minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Mixel is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Ayres seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Mixel shoots in but no luck this time. Kai Ayres has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Santos Mixel. Ayres fails with the takedown. Mixel tries to counter with a clinch but Ayres shakes him off and moves away. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Kai Ayres dominated that second round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round! Ayres tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Mixel swivels and escapes. Mixel tries to score a power double leg takedown but Ayres sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Mixel somewhat. Mixel stuffs the takedown. Ayres shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Mixel counters with a head kick. That will keep Ayres thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks! That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kai Ayres. That's going to take a lot out of him. Mixel plants his feet and lands a nice head kick! Ayres shoots in but Mixel avoids the takedown attempt easily. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Nice takedown defense from Mixel. No joy for Ayres on that attempt. Mixel fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Ayres avoids it really well and circles away.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ayres shoots for a double leg takedown but Mixel sprawls well. He's pushed Ayres's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Kai Ayres is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Ayres misses with a takedown attempt - Mixel sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Mixel stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Mixel wants it to stay on the feet. A slapping body kick lands there for Mixel. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Mixel. Mixel takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Ayres shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. No luck with that takedown attempt from Ayres.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Mixel misses with a body kick. Ayres throws a leg kick but Mixel sees it coming and checks it nicely. Mixel with a poor takedown and Ayres counters with a straight punch to the midsection. Ayres's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Ayres duly obliges. Ayres shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Mixel as he avoids it easily. Ayres clinches. Mixel can't find room to land a body shot as Ayres controls the action.
Ayres breaks from the clinch.
Ayres throws a sloppy head kick and Mixel moves out of range easily. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Ayres clinches. Ayres successfully pulls guard.
Ayres seems keen to control Mixel's posture.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mixel prevents Ayres from getting back to his feet. Ayres trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful. Mixel trying to control the position from guard on top but Ayres is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Kai Ayres overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Ayres pulls Mixel in close to prevent any damage. Mixel engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace. Ayres will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Ayres tries to break free but Mixel pushes him back against the cage. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Ayres lands with a good tight uppercut to the head. Mixel is trying to drag Ayres to the mat but Ayres just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there. Mixel has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
And that's the end of the fight! Kai Ayres showed his dominance in that final round. I think Ayres has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
