CWC 310 - Prelims PBP Commentary |
This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the middleweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 18 wins and 14 losses; Tres Sulvar! And in the blue corner, fighting out of London, with a TWGC record of 14 wins and 21 losses; Ruben Gracie! The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Emerson Jorge and Edson Gomes.
The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Sulvar gets a clinch. Gracie is defending well against a takedown attempt. Sulvar jumps guard but Gracie turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing. Gracie gets underhooks to prevent Sulvar's takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tres Sulvar. That's going to take a lot out of him. Sulvar tries to pull guard but Gracie forces him back to his feet, against the cage. That's five minutes gone in the round. Gracie regains half guard there - taking advantage of Sulvar's attempt to lay and pray for a moment. Sulvar is figuring out what he wants to do next. That's six minutes gone in the round. Sulvar has the hooks in. Gracie is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted. Gracie is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.
You can see the frustration on Gracie's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Sulvar wants to control but Gracie manages to buck him off and is now in Sulvar's guard! That's seven minutes gone in the round. Sulvar is pulling down on Gracie's head to control his posture. Gracie is pushing down on Sulvar's leg trying to pass to half guard. Sulvar is fighting to maintain full guard but Gracie has managed to sneak the leg through. Gracie is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Sulvar doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Gracie. The fighters are battling for position here. Sulvar manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
That's eight minutes gone in the round. Sulvar lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard. Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Sulvar (13) vs (5) Gracie There's a bit of a scramble here and now Gracie is on top in guard.

Gracie tries to free his leg and advance position but Sulvar is retaining full guard. Sulvar pulls Gracie in close to his closed guard and prevents Gracie from doing any damage or advancing position. That's ten minutes gone in the round. Gracie has his foot on Sulvar's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Sulvar works his way back into a safe position though. Sulvar controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Sulvar got a little sloppy there for a moment and Gracie has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Sulvar has managed to get both his arms back between Gracie's legs - danger averted. Gracie escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Sulvar gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Sulvar pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Gracie is keeping the position for now.
That's eleven minutes gone in the round. Gracie has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Sulvar can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Sulvar is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Gracie is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Sulvar trying to control but Gracie is working from the bottom.
That's twelve minutes gone in the round. Gracie looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Sulvar works a leg free and moves into half guard. Gracie wants to get back to full guard. Sulvar controlling the pace. Sulvar tries to pass to full mount but Gracie defends it.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Will Sulvar go for the finish here or will he try and keep control of the position?
