PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Gerrad Skolz (ranked 1914 p4p, 1863 weight class) and Thomas Quessy (ranked 246 p4p, 241 weight class). Quessy has chosen NTM - Ma Benz as his entrance music. Thomas Quessy is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Thomas Quessy!
The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Steve Montenegro and John Kavanagh.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Skolz ducks right into an uppercut from Quessy.
Skolz misses with a body shot.
Skolz throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Quessy is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.
Quessy ducks under a wild hook from Skolz.
Quessy ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Quessy with the counter takedown but Skolz avoids it easily.
Skolz throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.

Quessy shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Quessy was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Quessy wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Skolz, who protects the arm well.

Quessy swings around for an armbar but Skolz sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Quessy's guard.

Skolz got a little sloppy there for a moment and Quessy has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Skolz has managed to get both his arms back between Quessy's legs - danger averted.

Quessy is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Quessy has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Skolz has passed into side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Skolz decides to stand back up. Skolz steps back and let's Quessy get back to his feet.
Quessy misses with a hook. Skolz ducked under it nicely.
Skolz misses with a straight left.
Quessy lands a nice shot to the body.
Skolz connects with an inside leg kick.

Quessy drives through with a takedown into guard.
Skolz looking to hit a scissor sweep but Quessy is one step ahead there.
Quessy tries to free his leg and advance position but Skolz is retaining full guard.

Quessy is looking to pass into half guard but Skolz pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Skolz is in guard.

Skolz looking to sit in guard and control but Quessy gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

My spies in Glory 4 Boxing inform me that Quessy has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Quessy has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Skolz's face.

Skolz is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Quessy is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Skolz can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Thomas Quessy dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Skolz bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.

It looks like Thomas Quessy has been cut.
Skolz lands a slapping body shot.
Skolz looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
A jab lands there for Skolz.
Skolz throws a hook but Quessy avoids it easily.
Quessy ducks under a wild hook from Skolz.

That kick from Skolz tenderised Quessy's leg. Quessy is trying to keep his angry face on.

and Quessy counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Skolz has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Quessy is working away from the top position though.

Quessy is looking for a kimura but Skolz is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Quessy to get the leverage.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Quessy is trying for a kimura here. Skolz looks like he's in a lot of pain... and he's tapping out! Quessy wins by kimura!
