PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Edmond Honda (ranked 670 p4p, 932 weight class) and Luka Marka (ranked 19 p4p, 25 weight class). Honda comes into the arena with E. Honda Stage Theme Extended blaring out of the sound system. Marka has chosen HADES as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 27 - 19 - 0, fighting out of New York, Edmond Honda!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 9 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Luka Marka!
The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Sosuke Kotani and Yukihiro Shimada.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Honda throws a looping overhand right but Marka ducks down to avoid it.
Honda fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Honda tries to land a front kick but Marka steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Marka tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Honda looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
A head kick misses from Honda.
Honda gets off balance looking for a body kick

and Marka counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Marka controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Marka preventing the sweep.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Honda is looking to sweep but instead, Marka has passed into half guard.
Marka controlling the action here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Marka slows the pace down in half guard.
Honda tries to get to full guard but Marka has control of the leg.
Marka is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Honda is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Honda slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Honda is trying to control the position but Marka postures up.
Marka sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Honda bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Marka's guard.

Honda tries to free his leg and advance position but Marka is retaining full guard.
Honda missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Marka working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Honda.
Marka pulls Honda in close to prevent any damage.
Honda is looking to pass into half guard but Marka pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Marka is in guard.

Honda looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Honda wants to sweep here but Marka controlling him for the moment.

Honda looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Marka has picked Honda up and slammed him! Honda can't keep hold of the triangle and Marka manages to pass to side control!

Honda tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Marka wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Luka Marka dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Honda shoots in and drives through. Marka sprawls well.
Honda fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Marka manages to avoid it.
Honda misses with a body kick.
Edmond Honda is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Honda works the jab nicely.
Marka uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Honda.
Honda throws a head kick that misses

and Marka counters with a nice double leg into side control. Honda won't be happy with that.
Honda is looking for a sweep.
Marka just content to control the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Honda can't do much from the bottom here.
Honda tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Marka wants to control but Honda is keeping him busy.
Honda is trying to improve his position.
Marka has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Honda regains half guard.
Marka controlling the pace.
Honda wants to improve his position but Marka is controlling well.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Honda misses with a straight left.
Marka drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Honda defends it well.
Honda jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.

Honda scores with a head kick. Marka tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.
Marka throws a body shot but no joy.
Honda tries to counter with a takedown but Marka is quick to defend against it.
Honda shoots in for a takedown but Marka shows good takedown defense.
Marka with the counter takedown but Honda avoids it easily.
Honda moves into range and connects with a jab.
Honda closes this distance looking for a takedown but Marka circles away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Edmond Honda. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Marka ducks under a wild hook from Honda.
Marka changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Honda throws a sloppy head kick

and Marka counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Honda looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Honda looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Marka is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Honda has his foot on Marka's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Marka works his way back into a safe position though.

Marka controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Honda looking to hit a scissor sweep but Marka is one step ahead there.
Marka trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Marka stays in close to Honda's body and controls the position.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Honda bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Honda misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Edmond Honda will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

Honda throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Marka stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Marka lands an overhand right.

It looks like Edmond Honda has been cut.

Honda shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Honda loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Honda throwing strikes here but Marka is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
Marka is trying desperately to improve position.
Marka tries to hold on but Honda postures up.
Honda is in full mount looking to finish with strikes. He lands a big shot, followed by another and Marka goes limp! The ref jumps in to end the fight - a big win for Honda!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:57 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Edmond Honda!
A very excited looking Edmond Honda made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
