Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Alex Munhoz (ranked 1125 p4p, 4304 weight class) and Jerry Brooks (ranked 161 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 10 - 4 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Alex Munhoz! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Jerry Brooks! The judges for this bout are Dirk Anderson, Peter Branson and Winston Alpacca.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Munhoz has his takedown stuffed and Brooks counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Brooks stuffs the takedown attempt from Munhoz. Munhoz gets slowly back to his feet. Brooks swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made. Munhoz shoots in but Brooks avoids the takedown attempt easily. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Alex Munhoz. That's going to take a lot out of him. Munhoz fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Brooks now looks to counter with a shot at the body. Munhoz will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. A nice combination there by Brooks.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Brooks connects with a jab. Sloppy strikes from Munhoz. Those never looked like landing. Brooks looks like he wants to counter punch here. Munhoz shoots in looking for a takedown but Brooks manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Munhoz's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Brooks looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it. Brooks digs a good hook to Munhoz's body.

We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Brooks has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat. Brooks ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Munhoz moves away. Brooks scores with a decent looking hook. Brooks stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Brooks wants it to stay on the feet. Brooks swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made. Brooks thows a left - swing and a miss! Munhoz uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Brooks. Munhoz throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Munhoz goes for a double leg but Brooks avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Brooks continues to drive forward. Brooks is struggling to control the position. Munhoz breaks from the clinch.

A swing and a miss from Brooks. Jerry Brooks is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Brooks pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Munhoz misses with a takedown attempt and Brooks connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Munhoz's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Brooks connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Munhoz scrambles back to his feet. Munhoz misses with a series of wild punches.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Brooks thuds his right hand into Munhoz's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters. Munhoz shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Brooks as he jumps to the side. Munhoz dives in and grabs Brooks's left leg, looking for a takedown. Brooks pushes down on Munhoz's head and hops out. Munhoz takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch. Munhoz fails with the takedown. Brooks looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it. Alex Munhoz seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Munhoz shoots and misses and Brooks connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Brooks swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Munhoz changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit. Nice straight punches there by Brooks. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Brooks. Munhoz tries for a takedown but Brooks circles away easily and Brooks counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Munhoz changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Brooks tries to avoid it but Munhoz manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Brooks to the ground. Brooks escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. It seemed like Brooks was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it. Munhoz shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Brooks as he avoids it easily. Brooks misses with a wild body shot. Jab by Brooks. Brooks misses with a hook. Munhoz looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio. Brooks lands a nice hook to Munhoz's body. Munhoz takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes. Brooks lands with a hook. Munhoz tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.

Munhoz ducked under it nicely. Munhoz takes a body punch but keeps moving. Brooks fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Brooks is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Munhoz had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into mush. Munhoz tries to score a power double leg takedown but Brooks sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Munhoz somewhat. Munhoz with a poor takedown and Brooks counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Munhoz fails with the takedown and Brooks counters with a lovely shot to the body. Munhoz will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Jerry Brooks dominated that round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Brooks stuffs the takedown attempt from Munhoz. Munhoz gets slowly back to his feet. A countering left hand to the body from Brooks misses. Munhoz takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming. Munhoz uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Brooks. Munhoz tries for a takedown but Brooks circles away easily and Munhoz takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Munhoz shoots and misses and Brooks counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Munhoz thinking. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Alex Munhoz. That's going to take a lot out of him. Munhoz doesn't succeed with the takedown and Brooks counters with a lovely straight right hand! Brooks cracks a nice hook into Munhoz's ribs. Munhoz shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Brooks counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Brooks has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Brooks lands with a nice body punch. Munhoz tries to score a power double leg takedown but Brooks sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Munhoz somewhat. Munhoz with a lazy takedown attempt enabling Brooks to counter with a crisp jab.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Munhoz closes the distance and clinches up with Brooks, looking for a takedown. Munhoz pushes Brooks against the cage but Brooks circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Brooks dips down and scores with a jab to the body. Munhoz gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Brooks counters with a left and a right that stings Munhoz. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Brooks moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot. Nice body punch from Brooks. Brooks connects with a looping right hand.
Munhoz takes one to the chin there. Brooks changes levels and scores with a jab to the body. Munhoz throws a head kick that misses and Brooks counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Munhoz fails to land the takedown. Brooks scores with a shot to the body.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Brooks bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut. Brooks uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Munhoz.
Munhoz scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. Brooks tries to kick Munhoz off but Munhoz keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. Munhoz wants to pass the guard but Brooks is defending well. Munhoz stops Brooks from getting back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Munhoz trying to mount his opponent but Brooks defends it. Munhoz works his foot free and advances to mount. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Munhoz looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead. Brooks stops Munhoz from taking his back. Still, being mounted isn't any better. Munhoz wants to control the pace but Brooks is squirming around nicely. Brooks really wants to buck Munhoz off and get back to his feet. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Jerry Brooks showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!
Brooks tries to sprawl but Munhoz drives through with a takedown into half guard. Brooks is trying to stand up here but Munhoz is controlling him well. Munhoz looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
