PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Brendan Baddock (ranked 1317 p4p, 1405 weight class) and Qing Wu (ranked 40 p4p, 212 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Brendan Baddock!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Qing Wu!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Peter Branson and Santiago Holmes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wu lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Baddock at a distance.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Baddock misses with a wild combination.
Wu slips a jab from Baddock.
Baddock goes for a high kick. It partially lands.

It looks like Qing Wu has been cut.
Wu avoids the head kick by Baddock.
Baddock showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Wu.
Wu lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Baddock throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Baddock cracks Wu with a good jab.
Wu slips under a jab.
Baddock tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Wu was well out of range. Poor timing from Baddock.
Baddock lands a nice hook to Wu's body. Wu takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Wu avoids a punch combination nicely.
Wu fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Baddock has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.

It looks like Brendan Baddock has been cut.
Wu slips under a jab.
Baddock fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Wu manages to avoid it.
Wu looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Baddock tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Wu was well out of range. Poor timing from Baddock.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Baddock tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Wu lands with a hook. Baddock tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Wu showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Baddock.

Wu catches Baddock napping and connects with a big right hand that sends Baddock to the canvas!
Wu sitting in guard here, content to control.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Wu's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Wu landing with the ground and pound.
Wu passes Baddock's left leg - he's now in half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Wu perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Wu prevents Baddock from improving his position.
Wu controlling the action here.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Wu works his way into full mount!
Baddock is looking to get to half guard.
Wu controlling the pace for now.
Baddock tries to hold on but Wu pushes him away.
Wu takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Wu misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Wu thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.
Baddock tries to hold on but Wu pushes him away.
Baddock is bucking up trying to escape but Wu cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Wu has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Wu lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

Brendan Baddock's cut is getting worse.
Wu controlling his opponent.
Wu sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
Wu landing strikes from the mount and Baddock is in trouble!

Jeez, Brendan Baddock's cut is really nasty now. The referee must be thinking about getting that checked.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Brendan Baddock's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Qing Wu!
Qing Wu spent the whole post fight interview bigging himself up. It didn't go down that well with the fans after a while as they thought it was a bit arrogant.
