PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Rikz Abarai (ranked 4447 p4p, 4396 weight class) and Max Power (ranked 0 p4p, 216 weight class). Power is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Keep it 99. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Max Power!
The judges for this bout are Dmitry Maklakov, Ivan Kurochkin and Valeri Chadov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Abarai fails to land the takedown.
Power swats away the attempt to clinch by Abarai.

Power rushes Abarai and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Abarai prevents a body shot from Power.
Abarai has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Power is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Abarai really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Power can do anything to dispel that myth.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Abarai tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Power defends well and Abarai ends up having to push Power into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Abarai looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Power's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

Power has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Abarai is trying to keep an underhook but Power manages to get the takedown into half guard.

Power is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Abarai is just riding it out for now. Power eventually gives up the hold.

Power thows a huge punch but Abarai dodges it nicely.

Abarai throws a sloppy strike from the bottom. He's now off balance and Power manages to pass to side control.
The ground and pound from Power seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Power just content to control the position.

Abarai is looking to reverse the position.
Power slows the pace down.
Power throwing shots but missing, from side control.

Abarai is looking for a sweep.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Max Power dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.

Power throws a push kick but Abarai slaps the foot to one side.
Power keeps the fight on the outside.
Abarai is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Abarai tries to close the distance and clinch but Power swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Power wants to break the clinch but can't.

Power working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Abarai doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Abarai manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Power holds on and takes a little breather.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Power closes the distance and pushes Abarai back into the cage.
Power is working for takedown but Abarai is calmly controlling the position for now.

Abarai throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Power has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Abarai is looking to advance position but Power has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!


Power is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Abarai has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Abarai!

Power dives in and scores a takedown into Abarai's guard.

Abarai utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Power stands and steps away. Abarai gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Abarai has a takedown stuffed.
Despite the aggression on Power's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rikz Abarai. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Power attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Max Power showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!

Power keeps the fight on the outside.
Power falls off balance throwing a combination
and Abarai counters with a three punch combo that has Power backing up. Power nods at Abarai to acknowledge the strikes.
Abarai tries to close the distance and clinch up but Power swats him away and circles back towards the center.
No luck for Abarai with that takedown attempt.

Abarai is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Power is defending well for now.

Abarai looking to sit in guard and control but Power gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

and Abarai counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.

Power closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Abarai to the mat! Abarai manages to get full guard.
Power is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Abarai is trying to keep Power in close.

Abarai avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Power stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Abarai swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Power loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Power stands up and waves to Abarai to follow him.

Power shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Abarai avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Power.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Power is working for a kimura but Abarai is defending it quite comfortably.
Power is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Power throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Rikz Abarai has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Max Power is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Abarai is trying to get back to full guard.

Max Power comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Power has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
