Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Nate Diaz (ranked 3731 p4p, 5565 weight class) and John Maze (ranked 435 p4p, 527 weight class). Diaz comes to the cage accompanied by The Rain. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Nate Diaz! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Maze! The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Frank Antenori and Jack Bonds.

Diaz changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit. We've been hearing reports that Diaz has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight. Diaz stuffs the takedown attempt from Maze. Maze gets slowly back to his feet. Diaz changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Diaz looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Maze is defending against the submission attempts here by Diaz.
Diaz is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Maze is just riding it out for now. Diaz eventually gives up the hold. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Maze is looking for a sweep. Diaz is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Diaz has hold of Maze's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Maze manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Maze swinging wildly from the bottom but he's not landing. Diaz in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
Maze tries to get back to half guard but can't. Diaz lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning. Maze is trying to escape the mount.
Maze tries to improve his position but Diaz has taken his back! Diaz has a choke - it's sunk in pretty tight... Will Maze tap? No... maybe... yes! He's tapped! Diaz pushes Maze away and gets up to celebrate with his corner!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Nate Diaz! Nate Diaz decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
