RISE: From the Ashes PBP Commentary



The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A jab from Ali'i does it's job there.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Ali'i throws a shot to the body.
Ali'i throws a body shot but no joy.
Bowers is looking for the big counter here.
Bowers stuns Ali'i with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Bowers jabs Ali'i to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Bowers swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Ali'i counters with a nice uppercut.
Ali'i rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Bowers moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Bowers misses with a double jab.
Bowers displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Ali'i throws out the jab.
Bowers is looking for the big counter here.
Bowers throws a body kick despite being completely out of range
and Ali'i counters with a leg kick.

and Bowers counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Ali'i definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Bowers has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Ali'i.

and Bowers connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Bowers throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Bowers lets loose with a powerful body kick. Ali'i will feel that in the morning.
Bowers has tried to improve his agility in the runup to this fight.
Ali'i tries to work over Bowers's front leg with a kick but Bowers checks it.
Ali'i bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.

Bowers ducks right into an uppercut from Ali'i.
Ali'i lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Ali'i misses with a two punch combination.
Bowers rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Ali'i counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Bowers throws a jab but it's blocked by Ali'i.
Ali'i lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.

Ali'i appears to be looking for a big counter.
Bowers throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

Ali'i throws a right hand that Bowers ducks under and follows up with a left that Bowers also avoids with ease.
Bowers misses with a jab to the body
and Ali'i counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Ali'i.
Bowers throws out a counter right but Ali'i avoids it with no problem.
Ali'i uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Bowers has time to react.
Ali'i darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Bowers ducks right into an uppercut from Ali'i.
Ali'i misses with an uppercut
and Bowers counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
It looks like Kekoa Ali'i has been cut.
Bowers avoids the head kick by Ali'i.

and Ali'i cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Ali'i throws a half hearted mid kick.
Kekoa Ali'i seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Ali'i throws a combination that misses
and Bowers counters with a right hand to the body.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Bowers throws a shot from downtown. Ali'i moves away and avoids it.
Bowers throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Ali'i moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
A telegraphed right hand from Bowers misses the target.
Ali'i on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!

A little feinted left hand from Ali'i on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Ali'i on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.

Ali'i misses with a left hand
letting Bowers counter with a right hand.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Kekoa Ali'i is winning the standup battle so far.
Ali'i's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Bowers connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Ali'i scrambles back to his feet.
Bowers is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Ali'i.

Ali'i misses with a right hand
and Bowers connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Ali'i throws a body punch but Bowers moves out of range.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Bowers! But no joy.
Ali'i uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Bowers.
Ali'i rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Bowers counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Ali'i ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Ali'i throws a wild body kick that Bowers sees coming a mile off.
Ali'i scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Ali'i throws a half hearted mid kick.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Bowers goes for a small jab and connects. Now Bowers goes in closer pressing the issue. Left hook, right straight! Ali'i stumbles back but Bowers runs in with a huge uppercut knocking Ali'i to the ground! What a finish! You have to wonder if Ali'i will ever be the same after a knockout like that.
