PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Reese Rumbalo (ranked 2481 p4p, 2038 weight class) and Paul Welch (ranked 329 p4p, 281 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Reese Rumbalo has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Reese Rumbalo seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Reese Rumbalo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Paul Welch!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Robert Twigg and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Welch clobbers Rumbalo with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Rumbalo scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Paul Welch seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Rumbalo lands a jab.
Rumbalo uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Welch.
Rumbalo definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Welch misses with a right hand
and Rumbalo counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Rumbalo's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Welch connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Rumbalo scrambles back to his feet.

It looks like Reese Rumbalo has been cut.
Welch ducks under a wild hook from Rumbalo.
Rumbalo bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Rumbalo uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Welch.
Rumbalo takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
A big left from Rumbalo misses.
Rumbalo sets himself, and Welch steps forward looking for the clinch! Rumbalo avoids it this time.
Rumbalo takes a jab right on the kisser.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Welch misses with the combination.
Rumbalo has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Rumbalo there as he acknowledges the shot.
Welch scores with a jab. Rumbalo acknowledges it with a nod of the head.

Welch slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Rumbalo lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Rumbalo moves out of range as Welch strikes.
Rumbalo scores with a jab.
Welch misses with an uppercut.
It appears Rumbalo was looking to counter with a kick there.
Welch throws a jab but it's blocked by Rumbalo.
Rumbalo looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Welch connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
A lazy left from Welch finds it's target.

Rumbalo is rocked!
Welch might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
Welch looks to throw the jab but Rumbalo is out of range.
Rumbalo swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Welch throws a right hand that misses
and Rumbalo counters with a nice low kick that buckles Welch's knee momentarily.

and Welch counters with a one-two to the body.
Oh Rumbalo is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Welch scores with a nice head shot.
Rumbalo connects with a jab.
Welch scores with a decent looking hook.
Welch keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Welch bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Rumbalo's head backwards.
Welch throws an uppercut from hell that sends Rumbalo clean off his feet! He's out cold! Welch stands back and admires his work as he thinks about that KO of the night award that is surely being wrapped up for him back stage.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:24 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Paul Welch!
During a confident post fight interview, Paul Welch thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
