Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Roelof Gerritzen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, John Wick!
The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, David Schapiro and Franklyn Lucas.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Gerritzen looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Gerritzen connects with a nice short shot to Wick's temple.
Wick won't allow Gerritzen to pass to mount.
Gerritzen prevents Wick from improving his position.
Still in half guard, Gerritzen seems content to control.
Gerritzen has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.
Gerritzen looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Gerritzen seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gerritzen seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Wick for as long as he can get away with.

Gerritzen looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Wick with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Wick is trying to stand.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Wick shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Gerritzen but Gerritzen pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Wick bucks up and tries to throw Gerritzen off but instead Gerritzen has got his back!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Gerritzen lands a punch that was close to the back of the head but the ref thinks it's OK.
Gerritzen cracks Wick with a big shot to body and one to the head - really punishing Wick from the back mount here, looking to soften him up.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Gerritzen lands with a hammerfist to the side of Wick's head.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Gerritzen is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Gerritzen is taking a breather. Wick says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Wick misses with a takedown attempt - Gerritzen sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Gerritzen!

Wick has momentary wrist control but Gerritzen slips an elbow through the middle.

Gerritzen closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Wick did well to prevent Gerritzen getting side control.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Gerritzen takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Gerritzen works his foot free and advances to mount.
Wick is wriggling around trying to escape.

Gerritzen tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Gerritzen has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Gerritzen's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
The referee warns Wick that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

Roelof Gerritzen is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Well Gerritzen has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
