PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Greg Yarnd (ranked 4463 p4p, 2887 weight class) and Daniel Patterson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Daniel Patterson told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Greg Yarnd!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Daniel Patterson!
The judges for this bout are Chris Dean, Ron Honeybunn and Ben Watson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Patterson goes for a double leg but Yarnd avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Yarnd continues to drive forward.

Patterson gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Yarnd got a little sloppy there for a moment and Patterson has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Yarnd has managed to get both his arms back between Patterson's legs - danger averted.
Yarnd is working Patterson over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Patterson is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Yarnd content to stall in guard here.

Patterson escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Yarnd gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Yarnd seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Patterson working for submissions but it's allowed Yarnd to get to half guard.
Yarnd perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Yarnd is pressing down on Patterson's thigh, looking to free his foot. Patterson is holding on for now.

Yarnd looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Patterson has guillotine here! It looks pretty tight! Could this be all over! No, Yarnd escapes and passes into side control at the same time. Nice work there by Yarnd!
Yarnd tries to advance to mount but can't.
Patterson is trying to get back to half guard.

Yarnd tries to stand and escape but Patterson is controlling the position.
Yarnd prevents Patterson from improving his position.

Patterson is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Patterson is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Yarnd pulls his head out easily.
Yarnd seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Patterson looking for submissions from an awkward position here.

Yarnd working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.


Yarnd closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Patterson did well to prevent Yarnd getting side control.
Patterson is looking to improve his position.
Yarnd is taking a breather. Patterson says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Yarnd is nestled in close to Patterson, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Patterson is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Yarnd is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!
