And in the blue corner, fighting out of New York, with a TWGC record of 0 wins and 3 losses; Juanito Cortez! The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, Daniel Bishop and James Atkins.
The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Cortez rushes Kujawski and presses him up against the cage. Kujawski is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Cortez pulls him back up using the underhooks. Cortez wants to take the fight to the mat but Kujawski manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch. I was talking to Kujawski's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight. Kujawski looking for a takedown. Cortez is defending well against a takedown attempt. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Veigar Kujawski. That's going to take a lot out of him. Cortez is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Kujawski pulls him back up using the underhooks. Cortez has Kujawski pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Kujawski manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing. Cortez wants a takedown but no success here.

Cortez really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Kujawski. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Cortez doesn't have the hooks in and Kujawski manages to turn into his guard.

That's one minute gone in the round. Cortez moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Kujawski forces his way into half guard. Cortez wants to get back to full guard. Kujawski is looking for a kimura but Cortez is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Kujawski to get the leverage. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Kujawski prevents Cortez from improving his position. Kujawski trying to control the action but Cortez is working from the bottom. Kujawski is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Cortez doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Kujawski. Cortez is trying is best to control the position here.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Kujawski is trying to control the action in half guard but Cortez is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Kujawski is looking for a kimura but Cortez is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Kujawski to get the leverage. Kujawski seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Cortez is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!
