This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the super heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Los Angeles, with a TWGC record of 4 wins and 2 losses; Rubadub Dubberly! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Tokyo, with a TWGC record of 5 wins and 7 losses; Zhan Dhelan! The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, Alyssa Summers and Bruno Lombardi.
The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Dhelan drives through with a takedown into guard. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Dubberly (0) vs (2) Dhelan Dubberly will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Dubberly pulls Dhelan in close to his closed guard and prevents Dhelan from doing any damage or advancing position. Dhelan sitting in guard here, content to control. Dubberly has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall. Dhelan trying to control but Dubberly is working from the bottom. That's one minute gone in the round. Dhelan seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Dubberly does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Dubberly makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Dubberly. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Dhelan. Dhelan is stalling in the full guard. Dhelan stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Dubberly swivels though and keeps the full guard. Dhelan swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Dubberly is now in Dhelan's guard. A big mistake from Dhelan there, giving up the dominant position! Dubberly doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Dubberly manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Dubberly passes easily into side control. Nice work. Dhelan knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Dhelan tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Dubberly wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Dubberly taking a breather here. Dhelan is not content to let Dubberly control the position. A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
And that's the end of the fight! Dubberly takes the fight on points by 18 to 9. After winning the bout, Rubadub Dubberly thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility. |
