Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Daniel Patterson (ranked 2655 p4p, 5492 weight class) and Manuel Tillich (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Manuel Tillich told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Daniel Patterson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Manuel Tillich! The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Donatello Bradman and Hugh Johnson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Patterson fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Tillich avoids it really well and circles away. A little jabbing left from Tillich on the counter but it doesn't find it's target. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Patterson is defended easily by Tillich. Tillich's coach down at was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Tillich's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight. Tillich throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Tillich will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Patterson shoots in looking for a takedown but Tillich manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Patterson's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Daniel Patterson. That's going to take a lot out of him. Patterson shoots for a double leg takedown but Tillich sprawls well. He's pushed Patterson's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Tillich's jab looks to have found its range, popping Patterson under the eye. Tillich looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Patterson shoots in for a takedown but Tillich shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Patterson shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Tillich as he jumps to the side. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Tillich stuffs the takedown attempt from Patterson. Patterson gets slowly back to his feet. Tillich drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Patterson defends it well. Patterson has a takedown stuffed. Tillich forces Patterson back against the cage and clinches.
That's one minute gone in the round. Tillich is defending well against a takedown attempt. Patterson is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage. Tillich pressing his opponent against the cage. Patterson tries to score a body lock takedown but Tillich shows good agility there to stay on his feet. Patterson drops down looking for an ankle pick but Tillich pulls his leg out and moves away.
Tillich keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Patterson is defended easily by Tillich. Tillich connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Patterson momentarily.
Patterson looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Tillich looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it. Tillich cracks a nice hook into Patterson's ribs.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Patterson shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Tillich defends it nicely. Tillich jabs at Patterson's body. Tillich clinches. Tillich turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control! This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Patterson is trying to get back to half guard. Tillich scoring with punches and elbows. Patterson is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Tillich off and has taken his back! Tillich tries to escape the position.
Tillich preventing the rear naked choke attempt from Patterson. Patterson has his opponent's back and is working for the choke. Patterson has managed to slip his arm under Tillich's chin. This could be all over... yep, Tillich is tapping out! Submission win for Patterson.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Daniel Patterson!
