PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dan Dillon (ranked 4528 p4p, 4471 weight class) and Indie Montim (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dillon has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Dan Dillon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Indie Montim!
The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, James Glass and Chris Edwards.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Montim is trying hard to land a takedown here. Dillon sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Montim fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Montim throws a combination that misses
and Dillon counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Indie Montim seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Dillon misses with a telegraphed body shot
and Montim counters with a good, hard body kick but Dillon shrugs it off.
Dillon is breathing heavily.
A nice leg kick from Montim, right into the meat of the thigh.
Montim throws a nice outside leg kick.
Montim shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Dillon as he avoids it easily.
It looked like Dillon was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Montim.
Dan Dillon has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Indie Montim.
Montim scores with a hook to the body. Dillon takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
We've been told by Dillon's head coaches at BKC Gym that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Montim has closed the distance and engaged Dillon in a clinch.
Dillon is trying to break the clinch but Montim is controlling him.

Montim manages to break the clinch.
Dillon keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
It looked like Dillon was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.

Montim works over Dillon's head and body with a nice combination.

It looks like Dan Dillon has been cut.
Montim scores with the left hand. Dillon knows he should have avoided that one.
Dillon sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
Dillon could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Nice takedown defense from Dillon. No joy for Montim on that attempt.
Montim lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
Montim shoots in but no luck this time.

Montim gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Montim is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Montim shoots in and drives through. Dillon sprawls well.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Montim shoots in but no luck this time.
Dillon appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body.
Dan Dillon is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Montim moves into range and clinches up with Dillon.
Montim drops down looking for an ankle pick but Dillon pulls his leg out and moves away.
Montim fails with the takedown.
Montim looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Dillon is fending him off so far but Montim persists. Nope, Dillon circles away and we're back to standing.
Montim misses with a takedown attempt
and Dillon counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Montim misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Dillon is looking to counter punch.
A telegraphed right hand from Dillon misses the target.
Montim is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Indie Montim dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Dan Dillon's cut.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Montim shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Dillon cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Montim misses with a takedown attempt - Dillon sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Montim tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Dillon swivels and escapes.

Montim goes for a double leg but Dillon avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Dillon continues to drive forward.

Dillon stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Dillon wants it to stay on the feet.

Dillon throws a hook but Montim blocks it.
Montim shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Dillon as he avoids it easily.
Dillon throws a jab when Montim was well out of range.

Dillon slaps away a takedown attempt from Montim, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Dillon dips to his left and cracks Montim with an uppercut!

Montim rushes Dillon and presses him up against the cage.
Dillon lands a body punch.
Dillon tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Dillon misses with a punch on the inside.
Dillon gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Montim.
Dillon misses with a hook to the ribs.

Dillon struggles to land a body shot inside as Montim controls his hands.
Montim is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Still in the clinch, Dillon scores with a nice short uppercut.
Montim tries to pull guard but Dillon holds him up against the cage and eventually Montim drops back down to his feet.
Montim tries to land knees in the clinch but Dillon avoids the damage to the body.
Dillon misses with a punch to the body.
Dillon tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Montim's elbow.

Montim's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

and Montim counters by clinching up.

Montim breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Montim shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Montim slips a jab and a cross from Dillon.
Montim is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch.
Montim shoots in for a takedown but Dillon shows good takedown defense.
Montim throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Dillon counters with a right hand to the body.
Dillon scores with a nice head shot.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Dillon has had enough of the clinch but Montim keeps him there for the moment.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

and Dillon counters with a lovely shot to the body.

Dillon moves out of range of the strikes.
Dillon keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Montim shoots in looking for a takedown. Dillon tries to sprawl out of it but Montim keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Dillon manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Dillon is looking for a counter combo.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Montim tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Dillon paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Montim closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Dillon to the mat! Dillon manages to get full guard.
Montim is standing up over Dillon. Dillon looks to escape but Montim dives into side control.

Montim remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Montim creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Dillon sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

Montim has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Dillon is pressed up against the cage. Montim has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Dillon down to the mat. Dillon avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Dan Dillon has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Indie Montim.
Montim misses with a takedown attempt - Dillon sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Dillon was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Montim throws a right hand that Dillon ducks under and follows up with a left that Dillon also avoids with ease.
Dillon misses the shot to the body.
Dillon throws a right and a left that both miss.
Montim fails with the takedown
and Dillon connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Dillon's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Dillon duly obliges.

Montim rushes Dillon and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Montim gets control of Dillon's arms and successfully pulls guard. Montim will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Montim is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

Montim is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Dillon is aware though and is defending well.
Dillon stands and throws Montim's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Dillon tries to move into full mount but can't pass Montim's legs.
Dillon wants to control but Montim is keeping him busy.
Montim regains half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Montim is positioning himself well to prevent Dillon advancing to mount.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Montim lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Montim throws a big elbow that misses.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Montim working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Montim has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Montim sitting in guard, not really doing much.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Indie Montim.
I think Montim has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
