PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ryan Lippy (ranked 4422 p4p, 4454 weight class) and Amadeus Calussa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ryan Lippy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Amadeus Calussa!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Frank Antenori and Percy O'Donnell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lippy circles away from the clinch attempt.

Lippy clinches.
Lippy prevents a body shot from Calussa.
Calussa using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Lippy has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Lippy throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.
Lippy dodges an elbow strike from Calussa.

Lippy is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Calussa can't fight it off and eventually Lippy manages to take the fight to the floor. Calussa looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Lippy is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Lippy seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Calussa is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Lippy defends well.

Lippy controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Lippy throwing strikes from guard but Calussa blocks nicely.
Calussa being controlled here, momentarily.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Lippy has clasped his hands together around Calussa's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Lippy wants to stand but Calussa has his arm trapped.
Calussa is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Lippy moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Lippy tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
Lippy is staying tight to Calussa's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Calussa looks to move to half guard but instead Lippy has passed into mount! Damn!
Calussa is controlling an arm, preventing Lippy from taking his back. Although keeping him in mount is no better to be honest.
Lippy connects with a couple of good shots from mount.

Calussa tries to hold on but Lippy pushes him away.

Lippy controlling the position easily from mount.
Calussa looking to escape from mount but he's given up his back!
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Calussa wants to escape the position.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Ryan Lippy dominated that round.
That's time! Lippy's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Lippy closes the distance and pushes Calussa back into the cage.
Calussa looks to throw an elbow but misses.
Lippy is looking for a takedown.
Calussa slowing the pace effectively.

Lippy turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Lippy manages to end up in side control.
Lippy grinds an elbow into Calussa's temple.

Lippy wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Calussa, who protects the arm well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Lippy scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Calussa to see if he's OK.
Ryan Lippy overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Lippy tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.

Lippy wants to lay and pray for a moment but Calussa keeps working.
Calussa is letting Lippy control him for a moment.
Calussa is not in a great position here, taking some shots.

Lippy is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Calussa knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Lippy lands a few punches from side control.
Lippy has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Calussa seems a little lost for a moment, as Lippy dominates the positioning.
Lippy in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
A lull in the action here as Lippy stalls from top position.

Lippy working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Lippy lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Calussa down.

Calussa tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Lippy landing a few strikes.
Calussa can't do much from the bottom here.
Lippy staying calm.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Lippy is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Calussa knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Lippy will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Calussa tries to clinch but Lippy is having none of it.
Lippy really is a fat lump.

Calussa gets a clinch.
Lippy looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Calussa is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.

Lippy breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Lippy moves into range and clinches up with Calussa.
Calussa creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Lippy's defenses.

It looks like Ryan Lippy has been cut.
A frustrated look appears on Lippy's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Calussa looking to stall.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Come on Calussa - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
Calussa is looking to control Lippy's arms but Lippy gets an underhook and turns him. Now Calussa has his back to the cage.
Calussa pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the cage.

That's one minute gone in the round.
A body shot lands from Lippy.
Lippy can't break the clinch.
With the two fighters working up against the cage, Calussa just misses with a elbow thrown towards Lippy's brow.
Lippy has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Calussa is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Lippy working hard to break the clinch.
Lippy tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Calussa just stands there and leans against the cage.

Lippy jumps guard and drags Calussa to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Lippy wants to sweep but no luck.
Calussa with a flurry of punches that miss.
Lippy wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Lippy bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Calussa's guard.

Calussa keeping moving, preventing Lippy from controlling successfully.
Lippy postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Calussa looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Lippy controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Calussa is trying to hold Lippy in close to prevent damage but Lippy has managed to pass into half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Lippy seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Calussa trying to control from the bottom.
Lippy with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

Lippy closes the distance and pushes Calussa back into the cage.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Calussa throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.

Lippy pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Lippy swats away the attempt to clinch by Calussa.
Calussa is looking to clinch but Lippy is avoiding it.
Calussa wants to clinch.
Amadeus Calussa has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Calussa closes the distance and clinches.
Ryan Lippy is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Calussa tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Lippy's elbow.

And that's the end of the fight!
Ryan Lippy showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Lippy, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
