PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Onur Demir (ranked 24936 p4p, 5739 weight class) and Peter Tham (ranked 493 p4p, 476 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Demir might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Eva&Mia. Onur Demir had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Onur Demir!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Peter Tham!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Elvis Blanc and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tham lands a body shot.
Tham lands a glancing blow to the side of Demir's head.
Tham looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Demir tries to score a power double leg takedown but Tham sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Demir somewhat.
A little jabbing left from Tham on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Tham lands a jab to the head.

Demir pushes Tham up against the cage in a clinch.
Tham tries to throw a body punch but Demir avoids it by throwing Tham back against the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Tham tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.

Demir has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Tham avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Demir is trying to pull guard but Tham turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

Tham misses with a hook to the ribs.
Demir jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Tham walks away with a smile on his face. Demir gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Tham moves in looking to clinch but Demir pushes him off.
Demir appears to be looking for a big counter.
Tham tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Demir manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Demir tries to keep at a distance but Tham has taken the fight into the clinch.
Tham doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Tham swings wildly with an uppercut but Demir uses good head movement to avoid it.
Tham misses with the head strike.
Demir prevents a body shot from Tham.

Tham lands a body punch.
Tham wants to break free but Demir has control.

Tham pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Demir fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Tham avoids it really well and circles away.
Demir misses with a takedown
and Tham counters with a straight punch to the midsection.

Tham closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
Tham pushes Demir back against the cage and unloads with a body punch.

Tham pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Tham moves into the clinch successfully.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Demir jumps guard but Tham turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Demir is trying to push Tham away but Tham has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

Tham swings wildly with an uppercut but Demir uses good head movement to avoid it.

Demir decides to pull guard.
Tham missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Tham loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Demir is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Tham postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Demir utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Tham looking to sit in guard and control but Demir gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Demir is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Peter Tham dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Tham doesn't manage to clinch there - Demir circles away.

Demir fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Tham, pushing him back against the cage.

Tham misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Demir.
Tham has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Demir avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Tham scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.

and Demir counters with a left and a right that stings Tham.

Tham scores with a jab. Demir acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Demir bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Demir tries to counter by clinching up but Tham breaks away and moves out of range.
Demir changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Tham tries to avoid it but Demir manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Tham to the ground. Tham escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Tham tries to clinch up but Demir circles away and keeps his distance.
Demir shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Tham as he jumps to the side.
Tham tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Demir paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Demir is looking for a counter combo.

Peter Tham seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Tham bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Demir's head.

Demir doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Tham counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.

Tham throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Demir sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Demir moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Tham cracks Demir with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Demir shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Tham as he avoids it easily.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Demir drops his hands momentarily and Tham takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.

Demir has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.

Tham has worked on his takedown defense in the runup to this fight and it is paying off so far.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Demir is defended easily by Tham.
Demir shoots in for a takedown but Tham shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Tham rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Demir moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Tham breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.

Demir pulls Tham into guard.

Demir working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Tham doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Tham manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Tham throws an elbow that misses. Demir uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Tham's guard. Nice move by Demir!

Tham is trying to control Demir's posture but Demir avoids it.

Demir is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Tham's shoulder. That is not cool.
Demir tries to advance to mount but can't.
Tham trying his best to control but Demir has mounted him.
Tham takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Demir has control of Tham's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Tham regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Demir trying to control but Tham is having none of it.
Tham tries to hold on but Demir postures up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Tham is looking to get to half guard.
Demir looking to control but Tham is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Peter Tham is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Demir takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Tham tries to reverse the position but Demir maintains control.

And that's the end of the fight!
Onur Demir showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Tham has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
