PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Thadd Badd (ranked 4517 p4p, 5617 weight class) and Jean Jacque Mwilinagwe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Thadd Badd has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Thadd Badd!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jean Jacque Mwilinagwe!
The judges for this bout are Josh West, Micheangelo Fripello and Roger Salmon.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Badd throws a wild body kick that Mwilinagwe sees coming a mile off.
Mwilinagwe looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Mwilinagwe fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Badd shoots in for a takedown but Mwilinagwe shows good takedown defense.
Mwilinagwe throws a sloppy head kick

and Badd counters by clinching up.
Badd comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.
Mwilinagwe has had enough of the clinch but Badd keeps him there for the moment.

Badd breaks from the clinch.
Badd fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Badd defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Mwilinagwe.
Badd went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mwilinagwe moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.

Badd looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Badd not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Mwilinagwe working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Badd's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Badd takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.
Badd seems to have come into the fight with the intention of avoiding any damage in the clinch, rather than actually showing any aggression.

Badd can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Mwilinagwe controls the pace.

Badd is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Badd throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Badd goes for a double leg but Mwilinagwe avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Mwilinagwe continues to drive forward.

Mwilinagwe stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Badd tries to close the distance and clinch but Mwilinagwe swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Badd fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Mwilinagwe avoids it really well and circles away.

Badd looks for a takedown but Mwilinagwe sprawls well.
Badd tries to close the distance and clinch up but Mwilinagwe swats him away and circles back towards the center.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

That was a close round but I would say that Thadd Badd will probably get the nod.

Mwilinagwe shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Badd napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Badd gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Despite the aggression on Mwilinagwe's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.

Badd clinches up with Mwilinagwe and pushes him back against the cage.

Badd fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Badd shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Mwilinagwe but Mwilinagwe pushes him off and we're back to square one.

The crowd are getting pretty annoyed with Badd for his constant stalling in the clinch and are voicing their displeasure.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Badd thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Badd shoots in for a takedown but Mwilinagwe shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Thadd Badd.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Badd, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
