PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Minatay Mibangon (ranked 25057 p4p, 24968 weight class) and Wala Sapi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 3, fighting out of Las Vegas, Minatay Mibangon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Wala Sapi!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Robert Twigg and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Mibangon.
And Sapi responds with a good body kick, but Mibangon manages to step out the way in time.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Mibangon enables Sapi to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Mibangon manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Sapi is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Sapi wants to control from the top but Mibangon keeps moving.
Sapi slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Sapi slaps away a takedown attempt from Mibangon, before circling back to the center of the mat.

and Sapi counters with a flying knee. Nice.

Sapi shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Mibangon defends it nicely.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
No luck for Mibangon with that takedown attempt.
Sapi only half commits to the counter leg kick.

Sapi dives in and scores a takedown into Mibangon's guard.

Wala Sapi dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

and Sapi counters with an inside leg kick.
Sapi misses with an attempted mid kick.
Mibangon shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Sapi sprawls well. Sapi wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Mibangon gets slowly back to his feet.

Sapi wants to stand but Mibangon has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Mibangon wants to get back to his feet but Sapi is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Sapi looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Sapi's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Mibangon wants to sweep but no luck.
Sapi stays in close to Mibangon's body and controls the position.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

Mibangon closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Sapi's guard.
Sapi keeping moving, preventing Mibangon from controlling successfully.
Sapi is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

Sapi has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Wala Sapi showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Mibangon manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Sapi manages to get himself to full guard.

Mibangon wants to control from the top but Sapi keeps moving.
Mibangon controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

Mibangon throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Sapi tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Mibangon is in Sapi's guard.

Mibangon is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Mibangon seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Sapi for as long as he can get away with.
Minatay Mibangon has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Wala Sapi is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Minatay Mibangon.
Well Sapi has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
