PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Shamal Davis (ranked 4373 p4p, 5175 weight class) and Watcharapon Sitsongrit (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Shamal Davis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Watcharapon Sitsongrit !
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Wesley Smith and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Sitsongrit clinches.
Sitsongrit lands with a short head shot on the inside.

Davis has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Sitsongrit uses from the top position.
Sitsongrit is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Davis has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Sitsongrit can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Davis uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Davis tries to close the distance and clinch but Sitsongrit swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sitsongrit shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Davis sprawls well. Davis wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Sitsongrit gets slowly back to his feet.
Sitsongrit shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Davis defends it nicely.

Davis shoots in looking for a takedown. Sitsongrit tries to sprawl out of it but Davis keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Sitsongrit manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Davis fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
That kick from Sitsongrit tenderised Davis's leg. Davis is trying to keep his angry face on.

Davis changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Sitsongrit looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Sitsongrit can't do much from the bottom here.
Sitsongrit is trying to improve his position.

Davis is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Sitsongrit knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

Sitsongrit closes the distance and pushes Davis back into the cage.

That was a close round but I would say that Shamal Davis will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Sitsongrit shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Davis as he avoids it easily.

Davis bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Davis decides to stand back up.

Sitsongrit gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Sitsongrit pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Davis tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Sitsongrit manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Davis fails with a takedown attempt.
The fight stays on the outside here - Davis looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Davis bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Sitsongrit 's head.

Sitsongrit clinches up with Davis and pushes him back against the cage.

Sitsongrit pulls Davis into guard.

Davis drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Davis jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Davis works a leg free and moves into half guard.

Davis seems to be working for a kimura but Sitsongrit defends the submission attempt.

Sitsongrit is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Davis pulls his head out easily.
Davis tries to stand and escape but Sitsongrit is controlling the position.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Davis is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Sitsongrit defends it well.
Sitsongrit holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
Sitsongrit tries to kick Davis off in order to stand up. Davis Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.
Davis is looking to take a break and control but Sitsongrit is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Davis has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Sitsongrit moves into the clinch.

Sitsongrit effectively controlling the action here.
Sitsongrit tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Davis smiles and moves away.

Davis manages to pull guard.
Davis trying to keep a closed guard but Sitsongrit is proving a slippery customer.

Davis is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Sitsongrit in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Sitsongrit trying to control the position from guard on top but Davis is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Sitsongrit with a flurry of punches that miss.
Shamal Davis overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Davis is looking to stand up but Sitsongrit isn't so interested in that idea.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Sitsongrit slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Sitsongrit jumps into guard, dragging Davis to the mat.
Davis passes Sitsongrit 's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Sitsongrit tries to roll over but Davis keeps him under control.

Davis scores with a couple of good hammerfists.

Sitsongrit is controlling Davis's trapped leg to prevent Davis from advancing to side control.
Davis trying to control from half guard but Sitsongrit is working away.
Sitsongrit wants to control but Davis is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Davis wants to stand up but Sitsongrit is controlling the position.
Sitsongrit keeping hold of Davis's head, controlling as best he can.

Davis is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Sitsongrit can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Sitsongrit is looking to get to half guard.

Davis stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.
Davis goes for a double leg but Sitsongrit avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Sitsongrit continues to drive forward.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Shamal Davis. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Sitsongrit moves into range and lands a nice body kick.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Sitsongrit tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Davis defends well and Sitsongrit ends up having to push Davis into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Sitsongrit dives in and grabs Davis's left leg, looking for a takedown. Davis pushes down on Sitsongrit 's head and hops out.

Sitsongrit breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Sitsongrit throws a nice inside leg kick.
Davis shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Sitsongrit sprawls well. Sitsongrit wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Davis gets slowly back to his feet.

Davis is trying to pull guard but Sitsongrit turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Sitsongrit takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

Watcharapon Sitsongrit comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Sitsongrit has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
