This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the super heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Tokyo, with a TWGC record of 5 wins and 10 losses; Zhan Dhelan! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Tokyo, with a TWGC record of 2 wins and 1 losses; Kazuki Takeda! The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, William Peck and Gregory Folan.
The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Dhelan has managed to clinch.
Takeda decides to pull guard. Dhelan trying to control but Takeda is working from the bottom. Dhelan passes easily into side control. Nice work. Score +3 for passing guard: Dhelan (3) vs (0) Takeda Dhelan just content to control the position. Dhelan is looking to take a break and control but Takeda is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Dhelan working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Takeda stops Dhelan from passing to mount. Takeda is looking to regain half guard here but Dhelan keeps moving and retains side control. Dhelan has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. Dhelan gets to mount! Takeda was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly. Score +2 for reaching mount: Dhelan (5) vs (0) Takeda Dhelan avoids the attempt from Takeda to control. Dhelan controlling the position easily from mount.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Dhelan has hold of Takeda's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Takeda manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Dhelan controlling from the full mount. Takeda is wriggling around trying to escape.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Dhelan moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Takeda has worked his arm free - good work by Takeda!
Dhelan swings around for an armbar but Takeda sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Dhelan's guard. Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Dhelan (5) vs (2) Takeda
That's three minutes gone in the round. Dhelan working for submissions but it's allowed Takeda to get to half guard.
Takeda controlling the action here. Takeda seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Dhelan does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Takeda trying to control the pace. Dhelan looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Dhelan tries to get to full guard but Takeda has control of the leg. Takeda controlling the action here. Dhelan is looking for a sweep. Takeda is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Dhelan might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Takeda is looking to stall here but Dhelan recovers full guard. Takeda preventing the sweep. Takeda trying to control the position from guard on top but Dhelan is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Takeda content to sit in guard, stalling... Great. Oh but he could get punished here because Dhelan has locked up a guillotine! Dhelan's face is contorted as he sqeezes tight on the submission attempt - will he finish? Takeda is holding on here and Dhelan must be using up a lot of energy. Takeda has gone limp! He's out! He's out cold! Dhelan gets to his feet, tossing aside his stricken foe. Arms raised, he milks the applause from the crowd. Great submission!
