PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Max Radar (ranked 682 p4p, 823 weight class) and Saul Goodman (ranked 100 p4p, 115 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Max Radar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 19 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Saul Goodman!
The judges for this bout are Albert Achterberg, Paulsen Ambrosius and Aafke Stam.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Radar shoots in looking for a takedown. Goodman tries to sprawl out of it but Radar keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Goodman manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Radar circles away from the clinch attempt.

Radar is looking for a takedown.

Radar manages to pull guard.
Radar wants to sweep here but Goodman controlling him for the moment.
Radar will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Radar manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Goodman manages to get himself to full guard.


Goodman kicks Radar off and gets to his feet.
Saul Goodman seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Goodman takes a swing at Radar's ribcage but misses.
Goodman tries to clinch there but Radar circles away.

Goodman moves in looking to clinch but Radar pushes him off.

Goodman lands a right hook to the body.
Goodman turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Radar dives in for a single leg takedown but Goodman sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Radar's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!

Goodman wanted to stand there but Radar had control of the position.

Radar wants to hit a sweep here but Goodman passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Radar there!

Goodman takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Goodman is trying to control. Radar wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

It looks like Max Radar has been cut.
Radar keeps the fight on the outside.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Goodman closes the distance and clinches.

Radar has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Goodman uses from the top position.

Radar throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Goodman escapes and throws Radar's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Goodman is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Radar is trying to get back to half guard.
Radar is trying to escape the position but Goodman is controlling the position.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Goodman lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
I was talking to Radar's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Saul Goodman showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Goodman tries to clinch but Radar is having none of it.
Goodman moves into range and lands a nice body kick.
Goodman drops Radar with a straight left! Oh this is bad for Radar! Goodman dives in and starts dropping bombs - the referee has no choice but to step in and save him!
