PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Rick Piano (ranked 639 p4p, 616 weight class) and Fidel Legions (ranked 98 p4p, 96 weight class). Piano comes to the cage accompanied by Rick Piano Man. Legions comes into a darkened arena with his song building. For Heavy Metal we will die! kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Fidel Legions!
The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Shigeki Sano.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A chopping leg kick lands by Legions.
We've been told by Piano 's head coaches at London MMA Club that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Piano pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Legions lands a big head kick that sends Piano tumbling to the mat! Legions takes a step backwards and waves Piano back to his feet - he wants the finish!

Piano is rocked!

It looks like Rick Piano has been cut.
Piano misses with a wild body shot.
Oh Piano is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Legions uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Piano .
A little jabbing left from Legions on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Piano ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Legions moves away.
Piano seems to have got his legs back now.
Piano fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Legions manages to avoid it.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Piano throws a half hearted mid kick.
Piano looks for the body kick but Legions saw that one coming.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Legions crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Piano - the referee stops the clock and Legions gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Piano . Legions manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
Piano misses with a kick to the body
and Legions counters with a nice leg kick.
Piano throws a hook but Legions avoids it easily.
Legions goes for a double leg but Piano avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Piano continues to drive forward.
Legions blocks a head kick by Piano .
Legions tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Piano throws a shot to the body.
A thudding body kick lands there by Piano !

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Legions.
Piano is looking to wear down Legions with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
Piano scores with a push kick.
Legions looks winded!
Piano throws a head kick that misses.
Piano digs a good body shot into Legions's ribs.
Piano misses with a lunging right hand
and Legions counters with a nice uppercut.
Piano jabs Legions right on the nose. Legions blinks but takes it well.

It looks like Fidel Legions has been cut.
Piano throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Piano throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Legions stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Legions misses with a hook.
Piano tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Piano takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.

Legions swinging wildly here.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Legions has his takedown stuffed
and Piano cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Rick Piano has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Fidel Legions.
Crunch! Piano slams his shin into Legions's torso.
Rick Piano seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Piano tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Legions was well out of range. Poor timing from Piano .
Legions slips a jab from Piano .
Piano connects with a crisp jab.
Legions misses with a low kick.
Piano jinks towards his opponent looking like he wants to counter with a mid kick but doesn't commit.
A head kick by Piano misses

and Legions counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Legions throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Legions is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Piano doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Legions.

Legions thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Piano 's head.
Legions landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Legions is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Piano !

Legions misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
Legions throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Legions looking to ground and pound but Piano is blocking nicely.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Piano tries to hold on but Legions postures up.
Legions sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!

Legions throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Legions thowing shots but they're missing.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Legions working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.

Piano avoids a series of strikes thrown by Legions.
Legions pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Legions postures up and connects with a big shot that has rocked Piano badly. He's trying desperately to grab hold of Legions around the waist but Legions pushes him off and unloads with more strikes, forcing the referee to jump in and save him! Legions is the winner by TKO! Legions jumps onto the cage and shouts into the camera. "We did it momma!"

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Fidel Legions!
