PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Rob Walker (ranked 4300 p4p, 3979 weight class) and Smesh Mcgee (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rob Walker had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Rob Walker!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Smesh Mcgee!
The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Ben Zyskovitsi and Matti Vanhoillinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mcgee stuffs the takedown.

Mcgee moves into the clinch.
Mcgee is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Walker is defending well.
Walker is defending well against a takedown attempt.

Mcgee wants the takedown. Walker is fighting it off but Mcgee persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Walker's guard against the cage.
Mcgee slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Mcgee postures up in Walker's guard and throws a big left but Walker blocks it.
Mcgee stands up over Walker, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Walker can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Mcgee controls the pace.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Walker wants to get back to his feet but Mcgee is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Mcgee drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Walker dives on top into guard.

Mcgee wriggles free and stands up.
Mcgee swats away the attempt to clinch by Walker.

Mcgee looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Walker is trying to stand back up but Mcgee is controlling him

Walker wants to stand back up but Mcgee manages to pass into side control.

It looks like Mcgee might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Walker is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Mcgee wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Walker, who protects the arm well.

Mcgee is trying to get an arm triangle but Walker is defending well.
Mcgee cracks Walker with a big elbow.

Mcgee decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Mcgee shoots in and drives through. Walker sprawls well.
Rob Walker has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Smesh Mcgee.

Mcgee pulls guard.

Mcgee is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Walker is aware though and is defending well.

Mcgee is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.

and Mcgee decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Walker's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Walker is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Mcgee is controlling him.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Smesh Mcgee dominated that round.
That's time! Walker's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Mcgee shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Walker manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Walker is looking to stand back up but Mcgee counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Walker.


Mcgee is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Mcgee working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Mcgee is controlling the pace.

Walker is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.

Walker's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Mcgee has control of Walker's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Walker regains control of the situation pretty easily.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Mcgee wants to finish this one by submission but Walker is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Mcgee.

Walker is working to avoid the ground and pound but Mcgee connects with a decent elbow.

The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Walker stops Mcgee from passing to mount.
Mcgee lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Walker down.

Mcgee decides to stand back up. Mcgee steps back and let's Walker get back to his feet.
Walker moves out of range of the leg kick from Mcgee.
Walker attempts a counter takedown but Mcgee avoids it well and moves away.
Rob Walker is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Mcgee throws a right and a left that both miss.
Walker tries to counter with a takedown but Mcgee is quick to defend against it.
Walker looks to score with a jab to the body but Mcgee is just out of range.
Mcgee displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Walker.
Mcgee tries to counter by closing the distance.
Mcgee shoots for a takedown but Walker saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Walker throws a big counter combination but Mcgee scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.

Mcgee misses with an elbow over the top.

Mcgee gets a trip takedown into half guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Mcgee works his way into side control.
Walker is not content to let Mcgee control the position.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Smesh Mcgee showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

Walker wants to get up but he can't break Mcgee's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Walker looking to sit in guard and control but Mcgee gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Mcgee sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Walker's guard.

Mcgee is taking a breather. Walker says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Mcgee has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Walker is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Mcgee is controlling him well.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Mcgee tries for a kimura but Walker is defending well.
Walker pushes Mcgee away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Mcgee gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Mcgee decides to stand back up. Mcgee steps back and let's Walker get back to his feet.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Well Mcgee has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
