PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Louis Cyr (ranked 3775 p4p, 2741 weight class) and Dalton Swas (ranked 405 p4p, 322 weight class). Louis Cyr has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Louis Cyr!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Dalton Swas!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Gregory Folan and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cyr fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Swas looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Cyr tries to clinch but Swas is having none of it.
Cyr tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Swas paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Cyr misses with a double jab

and Swas counters with a single leg into guard. Cyr didn't expect that.
Swas showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
Cyr looking to control.

Swas stands up and waves to Cyr to follow him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Swas gets a clinch.
Cyr tries to throw a body punch but Swas avoids it by throwing Cyr back against the cage.
A short body shot lands from Cyr as the two fighters clinch.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Swas pushes Cyr back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.

Cyr is fighting off a takedown attempt but Swas is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Cyr to the mat. Cyr regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Swas wants to pass the guard but Cyr is keeping the position.
Swas loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Swas decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Cyr feints a jab promting Swas to slip. Cyr then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Swas slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Louis Cyr seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Cyr ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Swas moves away.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Cyr can't break the clinch.

Swas jumps guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Swas bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Cyr's guard.


That's two minutes gone in the round.
Cyr trying to keep a closed guard but Swas is proving a slippery customer.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Swas accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Swas has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Swas sitting in guard, not really doing much.

Swas stands and steps away. Cyr gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Swas rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Cyr moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Cyr gets a clinch.

Swas ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Swas no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Cyr might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Swas pulls Cyr in close to prevent any damage.

Swas has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Cyr can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Swas is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Swas throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Swas wants to stand and escape but Cyr is having none of it.
Swas thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Swas pulls Cyr in close to his closed guard and prevents Cyr from doing any damage or advancing position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Swas clinches with his opponent.

Swas pulls guard.

Cyr avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Dalton Swas dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Swas slips a jab and a cross from Cyr.
Nice sprawl there from Cyr as Swas shoots in.

Cyr clinches with his opponent.
Cyr struggles to land a body shot inside as Swas controls his hands.
Cyr tries to throw a body punch but Swas avoids it by throwing Cyr back against the cage.
Swas taking a breather.
A bit of stalling here from Swas.
Cyr lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
Cyr tries to break the clinch but Swas is controlling the position.

Swas escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Swas changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Cyr tries to avoid it but Swas manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Cyr to the ground. Cyr escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Cyr throws a series of punches but Swas avoids them all with ease.

Cyr moves into range and clinches up with Swas.

Swas manages to break the clinch.
Swas has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Cyr missing with a left hand there. Swas was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.

Cyr throws a right and a left that Swas avoids nicely.
Cyr tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
And Swas tries to counter it with a takedown but Cyr pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Cyr moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Swas shoots for a double leg takedown but Cyr sprawls well. He's pushed Swas's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Louis Cyr has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dalton Swas.
Cyr fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Swas looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
A head kick from Swas lands but Cyr takes it in his stride.
Cyr tries to clinch but Swas moves out of range.
Cyr pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Swas back to the cage. Cyr follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
Cyr throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Swas fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Cyr to the ground. Swas is now in Cyr's guard.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Cyr manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Cyr is trying to break the clinch but Swas is controlling him.
Cyr looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Swas drops down looking for an ankle pick but Cyr pulls his leg out and moves away.

Cyr staying out of range there.
Swas fails to land the takedown.
A combination from Cyr does no damage.
Swas shapes to counter with a head kick.
Swas fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Cyr avoids it really well and circles away.
Swas avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Sloppy strikes from Cyr. Those never looked like landing.

Cyr gets caught flat footed, as Swas shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Dalton Swas has got the better of the ground game so far.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Swas is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Swas's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Swas postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Swas passes easily into side control. Nice work.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Cyr is being controlled here.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!

Swas takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Swas is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Cyr is defending well.
Cyr wants to break free but Swas has control.

Swas jumps guard.
Cyr engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Swas pulls Cyr in close to his closed guard and prevents Cyr from doing any damage or advancing position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Swas is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Swas is taking a breather. Cyr says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Swas wants to work for an arm triangle but Cyr is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Still in half guard, Swas seems content to control.
Swas takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Swas is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Cyr doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Swas.
Still in half guard, Swas seems content to control.

Cyr has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Swas is working away from the top position though.
Cyr on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Cyr tries to get out of the position.
Swas looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Swas working the head and body with strikes.
Swas content to control rather than advance.

Cyr is trying to stand up here but Swas is controlling him well.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Cyr looks to clinch
and Swas makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Cyr really felt that one!
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Cyr tries to close the distance and clinch up but Swas swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Cyr connects with a body shot.
Louis Cyr is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Swas swinging wildly here.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Swas thuds his right hand into Cyr's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Cyr lands a nice looking body shot.

And that's the end of the fight!
Dalton Swas comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Swas has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
