Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Conor Newton (ranked 3105 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shamal Davis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.

With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Shamal Davis !
The judges for this bout are Wagner Zegers, Saam Ante and Aafke Stam.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Davis fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Newton seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.

Davis has closed the distance and engaged Newton in a clinch.
Davis working on landing some head shots here - that one got through nicely.
Newton is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Davis to keep the fight standing.

Davis seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Newton tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Davis shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Newton as he avoids it easily.

Davis jumps guard and drags Newton to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Newton wants to control from the top but Davis keeps moving.
Davis is trying to keep Newton in close.

Davis is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Newton presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.

Davis escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Davis shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Newton sprawls well. Newton wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Davis gets slowly back to his feet.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

As Davis looks to move away, Newton throws a big counter combo but Davis just gets out of the way.

Newton is looking to wear down Davis with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
Newton keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Newton is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Davis .

Davis ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Davis no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Newton stands and steps away. Davis gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Newton stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Newton wants it to stay on the feet.
Newton leaves Davis with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

Newton throws an elbow that misses. Davis uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Newton's guard. Nice move by Davis !

Davis passes Newton's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Davis is taking a breather. Newton says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Davis 's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Davis passes the guard and advances to mount!

Shamal Davis has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Conor Newton is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Davis thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Conor Newton.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Newton, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Conor Newton decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
