PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between George Walker (ranked 684 p4p, 1112 weight class) and Johnny Slater (ranked 101 p4p, 156 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, George Walker!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Johnny Slater!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Stewart Dunkirk and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Slater takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Walker connects with the punch.
Slater takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.

Slater scores with a takedown into Walker's guard.
Walker is looking to sweep but instead, Slater has passed into half guard.
Slater working over Walker with some ground and pound. Walker looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Slater lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Well, if Slater is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Walker is looking to improve his position.
Walker regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Slater.
Slater landing with the ground and pound.

Slater trying to control but Walker is working from the bottom.
Slater chips away with some ground and pound.
Slater is working Walker over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Slater is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Walker keeping moving, preventing Slater from controlling successfully.

Walker has his foot on Slater's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Slater works his way back into a safe position though.
Slater looking to sit in guard and control but Walker gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Slater holds on and takes a little breather.

Slater looking to hit a scissor sweep but Walker is one step ahead there.
Slater has his hands on Walker's head, controlling the position.
Walker trying to control but Slater is working from the bottom.
Slater wants to sweep but no luck.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Walker with a flurry of punches that miss.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Slater is on top in guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Slater postures up.
Walker definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Slater stands up over Walker, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Slater distracts Walker with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Slater avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Slater stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Walker swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Walker manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Slater manages to get himself to full guard.

Walker passes Slater's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Slater regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Walker.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Slater looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Johnny Slater will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Slater closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Slater swings and misses with a shot to the body
and Walker connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Walker lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Walker is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Walker is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Slater can do to turn this around?

Walker sizes up Slater with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Walker missing with a left hand there. Slater was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Slater shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Walker but Walker pushes him off and we're back to square one.
A big right from Walker misses.
Slater shoots in looking for a takedown. Walker tries to sprawl out of it but Slater keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Walker manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Slater looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
George Walker has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Johnny Slater.
Walker scores with the left hand. Slater knows he should have avoided that one.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Slater closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Slater lands in his opponent's guard.

Walker is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Slater postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Walker tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Walker can't keep his opponent in guard - Slater advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Slater advances to half guard.
Slater moves nicely into side control.
Slater works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.

Walker is looking to regain half guard here but Slater keeps moving and retains side control.
Slater wants to lay and pray for a moment but Walker keeps working.
Walker regains half guard.
Slater is keen to just control but Walker is a slippery customer.

Slater is looking to control the position but Walker frees his trapped leg and locks up an armbar from the bottom! It looks tight! Slater grimaces and holds on for a second but is forced to tap or have his arm broken! Slick Jiu Jitsu from Walker there - Slater really paying for some sloppy defensive work!
