PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Karl Schwarzschild (ranked 371 p4p, 1376 weight class) and Paul Welch (ranked 56 p4p, 204 weight class). Paul Welch told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Karl Schwarzschild!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Paul Welch!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Chris Downing and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Schwarzschild lands with a straight right. Welch didn't see that one coming.
Welch misses with the combination.
Welch throws a series of punches but Schwarzschild avoids them all with ease.
Schwarzschild slips a straight right by Welch.
Paul Welch seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Schwarzschild uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Welch.
Welch throws out a loose jab but Schwarzschild uses good head movement to avoid it.
Welch stalks Schwarzschild and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Schwarzschild's face. Schwarzschild staggers backwards, shaken.
Welch rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Schwarzschild moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Welch scores with a hook to the body. Schwarzschild takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.

Welch throws a looping overhand right but Schwarzschild ducks down to avoid it.

Schwarzschild moves out of range of the strikes.
Welch paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Schwarzschild has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.

Welch lands a jab-cross combination.
Welch rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Schwarzschild moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Schwarzschild has Welch pressed against the cage, preventing Welch from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Schwarzschild throws a leg kick but Welch sees it coming and checks it nicely.
Welch looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Welch goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Schwarzschild takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.

Welch lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Schwarzschild backs up against the cage.
Welch throws a hook to the side of Schwarzschild's head but Schwarzschild sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

and Schwarzschild counters with a nice low kick that buckles Welch's knee momentarily.

Welch might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
Welch throws a series of punches but Schwarzschild moves out of range.
Welch with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Schwarzschild to score with a decent uppercut.

Schwarzschild unloads with a big right hand that wobbles Welch! He's leaning against the cage trying to keep his feet but Schwarzschild is unloading with more strikes now! Welch drops to his knees and the referee stops the fight for a TKO!

Karl Schwarzschild decided to thank the fans in attendance for making a great atmosphere. It seemed to go down pretty well.
