PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Oskar Arnason (ranked 3955 p4p, 2771 weight class) and Gabriel Soares (ranked 416 p4p, 313 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Gabriel Soares was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Gabriel Soares!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Arnason walks into a jab.

Arnason definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Arnason tries to score a power double leg takedown but Soares sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Arnason somewhat.
Soares connects with a crisp jab.
Soares throws a good cross that connects.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Arnason throws a shot from downtown. Soares moves away and avoids it.
Soares catches Arnason with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Arnason tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Soares paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Soares avoids a lazy jab quite easily.

Arnason missing with a left hand there. Soares was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Soares lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Soares lands a jab to the head.
Arnason throws a hook but Soares avoids it easily.
Arnason takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Arnason just misses with a punch to the body.
Soares lands a really nice looking cross but Arnason seems unphased.

Soares throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Arnason on the side of the head.

Arnason is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

Soares stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.

Soares is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.

Arnason moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Arnason fails to land with a series of punches.
Soares might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
Arnason drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.

Soares rushes Arnason and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Arnason pushes off an throws an elbow but Soares leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.

Soares ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Soares no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Arnason trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Arnason not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Soares keeping moving, preventing Arnason from controlling successfully.

Soares is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Arnason loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Gabriel Soares dominated that round.
That's time! Arnason's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Arnason.
Soares swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Arnason.

Arnason is looking to control Soares's arms but Soares gets an underhook and turns him. Now Arnason has his back to the cage.

Arnason changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Soares fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Arnason throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Soares works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Soares pulls Arnason in close to prevent any damage.

Soares uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Arnason has time to react.

Arnason fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Soares manages to avoid it.

Gabriel Soares showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Soares has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Soares is staying active underneath Arnason, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Gabriel Soares is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Arnason is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Soares is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Arnason thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Oskar Arnason.
Well Soares has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
