Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Hero Shima (ranked 99 p4p, 169 weight class) and William Riker (ranked 17 p4p, 27 weight class). Shima's entrance music is C. R. E. A. M. A fine choice. Riker has chosen In The Summertime as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Hero Shima!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, William Riker!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Frank Antenori and Jack Bonds.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Riker throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Shima misses with a body shot
and Riker counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Riker throws a left and a right that both miss
and Shima counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Riker darts in trying to clinch
and Shima counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Riker takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.

Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Riker takes a swing at Shima's ribcage but misses.

and Shima counters with a nice body shot.
Shima throws a looping overhand right but Riker ducks down to avoid it.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Riker! But no joy.

Riker scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Shima doesn't seem bothered though.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Both these guys seem content to just stand up and trade with each other but Riker might want to think about changing up his gameplan a bit because over the course of the fight, Shima has got the better of the exchanges.

And Riker tries to counter it with a takedown but Shima pushes his down on his head and steps out.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Riker avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Riker stands up over Shima, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Riker throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Shima works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Shima wants to sweep here but Riker controlling him for the moment.
Riker working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Shima's head.
Shima has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Riker has passed into side control.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Shima manages to get back to half guard.
Riker wants to lay and pray for a moment but Shima keeps working.
Riker looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Shima with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
