This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the featherweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Montreal, with a TWGC record of 22 wins and 16 losses; Angelo Saldini! And in the blue corner, fighting out of New York, with a TWGC record of 21 wins and 30 losses; Darian Cruz! The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Ian Loll and Robert Douchet.
The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Cruz closes the distance and clinches up with Saldini, looking for a takedown. Cruz pushes Saldini against the cage but Saldini circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Saldini feinted with a counter takedown. Cruz looks for a takedown but Saldini sprawls well. Cruz fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Saldini avoids it really well and circles away. Angelo Saldini has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Darian Cruz. Cruz tries to score a power double leg takedown but Saldini sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Cruz somewhat. Saldini feinted with a counter takedown. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. That's one minute gone in the round. Saldini tries to buck Cruz off but Cruz is having none of it. Cruz gets to mount! Saldini was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly. Saldini tries to hold on but Cruz pushes him away. Cruz wants to control the pace but Saldini is squirming around nicely.

Saldini doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Saldini manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Saldini sitting in guard, not really doing much. Cruz looking to hit a scissor sweep but Saldini is one step ahead there.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Cruz has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Saldini can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Cruz is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

That's nine minutes gone in the round. Cruz is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Saldini sees it coming and defends easily. Saldini slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Saldini holds on and takes a little breather. Cruz trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Cruz drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Saldini manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Cruz has Saldini in his guard.
