PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Remi Chavaski (ranked 506 p4p, 1252 weight class) and Eric Ries (ranked 85 p4p, 177 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 19 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Remi Chavaski!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Eric Ries!
The judges for this bout are James Glass, Richard Clark and Paul Tew.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ries throws a looping overhand right but Chavaski ducks down to avoid it.
Ries lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Chavaski circles away quickly and effectively.
Chavaski uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Ries.
Chavaski tries to counter with a takedown but Ries is quick to defend against it.
Ries throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Chavaski sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Chavaski appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Ries throws a head kick that Chavaski semi-blocks.

so Chavaski counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Chavaski seems to be looking for submissions.

Chavaski wants to lay and pray for a moment but Ries keeps working.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Chavaski tries to counter with a takedown but Ries is quick to defend against it.

Chavaski drops down looking for a counter takedown but Ries sprawls and moves away.
Nice straight punches there by Ries. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Ries.

Chavaski tries to counter by clinching up but Ries breaks away and moves out of range.

Eric Ries seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Ries throws a push kick but Chavaski slaps the foot to one side.
Chavaski is looking to counter the offense by Ries and move into the clinch.
Ries connects with a single shot there.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Ries tries to work over Chavaski's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Chavaski changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Ries fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Ries stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Ries wants it to stay on the feet.

Chavaski shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Ries as he jumps to the side.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ries moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.

Ries pulls out of a head kick attempt.

and Chavaski counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Chavaski.
Chavaski is looking to take this one to the mat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Remi Chavaski. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Chavaski is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Ries gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Nice body punch from Ries - that landed with a thud.
Chavaski changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Ries fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Ries slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Ries throws a head kick but Chavaski moves out of range.

and Ries counters with a nice uppercut.
Chavaski tries for a takedown but Ries sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Ries appeared to try and counter that last move with a leg kick.
Eric Ries seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Ries gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Chavaski to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Ries is adopting a defensive guard.
Chavaski trying to control the position from guard on top but Ries is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Chavaski drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Ries dives on top into guard.

Ries not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Chavaski is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Chavaski looking for a sweep. Not yet Chavaski, not yet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Chavaski working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Ries doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Ries manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Ries got a little sloppy there for a moment and Chavaski has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Ries has managed to get both his arms back between Chavaski's legs - danger averted.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Chavaski wants to hit a sweep here but Ries passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Chavaski there!
Chavaski wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Eric Ries showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Chavaski's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Ries fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Chavaski is out of range.

Chavaski shoots in and bounces Ries off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Remi Chavaski overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Chavaski not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Ries must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Chavaski tries to reverse the position but Ries maintains control.
Chavaski tries to hold on but Ries postures up.
Chavaski is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

Chavaski is trying to get back to full guard.

Ries is stalling in the full guard.

Chavaski is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Chavaski is looking for a triangle here but Ries uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Ries is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Chavaski will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Ries gets to mount! Chavaski was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Eric Ries comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Ries winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
