PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Martin Johnston (ranked 3058 p4p, 4019 weight class) and Saipam Muwaitang (ranked 380 p4p, 480 weight class). Johnston comes into the arena with Dacw 'Nghariad blaring out of the sound system. Saipam Muwaitang will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Martin Johnston!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Saipam Muwaitang!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, William Peck and Trevor Gratis.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice defenses there by Johnston.
Johnston moves away from the strike by Muwaitang.
Muwaitang throws a series of strikes that have Johnston backpedaling.

It looks like Martin Johnston has been cut.

Johnston clinches with his opponent.
Muwaitang wants to break free but Johnston has control.
A bit of stalling here from Johnston.

Muwaitang breaks from the clinch.

Johnston clinches.
Muwaitang tries to circle away but Johnston has him pinned against the cage.
Johnston prevents Muwaitang from breaking the clinch.
Muwaitang tries to break the clinch but Johnston is controlling the position.
Muwaitang tries to break free but Johnston pushes him back against the cage.

Johnston breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Muwaitang throws a looping overhand right but Johnston ducks down to avoid it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Johnston closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Muwaitang tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Johnston manages to move to mount!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Johnston misses with a head shot.
Johnston has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Muwaitang is trying to stand up.
Johnston wants to control the pace but Muwaitang is squirming around nicely.
Both fighters have adopted an aggressive gameplan on the ground!

Johnston is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Muwaitang to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Muwaitang shrugs it off.

It looks like Saipam Muwaitang has been cut.
Johnston misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Muwaitang really wants to buck Johnston off and get back to his feet.
Johnston controlling the pace for now.
Johnston sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Johnston is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Muwaitang can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

That has opened up Saipam Muwaitang's cut even more.

Muwaitang is rocked!

Saipam Muwaitang's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Saipam Muwaitang's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Martin Johnston!
A relieved looking Martin Johnston thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
