PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Par Dough (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dan Coen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Dan Coen was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Par Dough!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dan Coen!
The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, John Kavanagh and Chad Campbell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A combination from Dough does no damage.
Coen moves out of range as Dough strikes.
Dough thows a body shot but no joy.
Dough misses the jab.
Coen ducks under a wild hook from Dough.
Dough throws an overhand right that lands on Coen's shoulder, as Coen tries to avoid the shot.
Coen avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Dough pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Par Dough seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Coen wants to clinch up but Dough keeps it at a distance.
Dough keeps the fight on the outside.
Coen throws a leg kick but Dough sees it coming and checks it nicely.
Coen tries to close the distance and clinch up but Dough swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Dough fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Coen fails to land the takedown.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Dough is fighting off a takedown attempt but Coen is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Dough to the mat. Dough regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Coen wants to control from the top but Dough keeps moving.

Dough is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Dough is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Dough is looking for a triangle but Coen pushes his legs off easily.

Dough can't keep his opponent in guard - Coen advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Coen is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Coen thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Coen really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Dough. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Dough is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Coen pulls his head out easily.
Dough is breathing heavily.
Coen content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Dough gets back to full guard.
Dough is trying to keep Coen in close.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Coen wants to control from the top but Dough keeps moving.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Coen accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Dough keeping moving, preventing Coen from controlling successfully.

Dough has his foot on Coen's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Coen works his way back into a safe position though.
Dough is looking to sweep but instead, Coen has passed into half guard.
Coen working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Coen is thwarting Dough's attempts to control the position.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Coen connects with a nice short shot to Dough's temple.
Dough is staying active underneath Coen, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Coen blocks the strikes from Dough.

Coen is working Dough over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Dough bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Coen's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Dough jumps guard and drags Coen to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Dough unloads with some shots from mount but Coen bucks and avoids them well.

Coen is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.

Coen wants to hold on but Dough pushes him away.
Dough misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Dough seems to be working for a kimura but Coen defends the submission attempt.

Par Dough overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Dough throws and elbow that misses. Coen uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Dough's guard. Nice move by Coen!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Coen is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Dough lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Coen flailing away with punches but nothing is landing.
Coen is trying to escape the mount.
Dough throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.
Dough unloads with some shots from mount but Coen bucks and avoids them well.
Dough connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Dough throws some wild stikes that Coen manages to avoid easily.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Poor strikes thrown by Dough there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Par Dough will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Dough looking for a triangle here. Coen is fighting it but it looks tight! Dough pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Coen is tapping out - this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:39 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Par Dough!
