Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Brian Thompson!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Evan Smith!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Ron Honeybunn and Francis DeMontford.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Thompson tries for a takedown but Smith circles away easily
and Smith counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Thompson has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Smith has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.
Smith manages to break the clinch.
Thompson swats away the attempt to clinch by Smith.
Thompson tries a low kick but Smith avoids it.
Thompson goes for a double leg but Smith avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Smith continues to drive forward.

Thompson is pressed up against the cage. Smith has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Thompson down to the mat. Thompson avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Thompson tries to pull guard but Smith holds him up against the cage and eventually Thompson drops back down to his feet.
Thompson is fighting off a takedown attempt but Smith is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Thompson to the mat. Thompson regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Thompson wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Smith manages to pass to side control.

Smith works to advance to full mount. Thompson defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.

Smith takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Smith throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Thompson was covering up waiting for the punch and Smith finishes the takedown easily into guard.
The fighters are working up against the cage. Thompson manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.

Smith breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Thompson doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Smith moves into the clinch.
Smith gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Thompson on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Thompson tries to get out of the position.
Thompson manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.

Smith shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Thompson as he jumps to the side.

It looked like Thompson wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Brian Thompson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Evan Smith.

Smith tries to score a power double leg takedown but Thompson sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Smith somewhat.
It looked like Thompson was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Thompson throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Smith's waist but Smith gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Thompson off to one side.
Smith tries for a takedown but Thompson sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Thompson is not content to let Smith control the position.
Smith is working to tighten his grip on Thompson's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Thompson has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Smith is really squeezing tight and eventually Thompson passes out! Smith breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
