Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Niklas Aho (ranked 2753 p4p, 2588 weight class) and Dag Schotel (ranked 356 p4p, 338 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 8 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Niklas Aho! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dag Schotel! The judges for this bout are Phil Schofield, Sam Margolis and William Gold.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Aho tries to land a front kick but Schotel steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed. Aho throws a head kick but Schotel moves out of range.
Aho feints and as Schotel raises his hands in defense, Aho changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Aho stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Schotel swivels though and keeps the full guard. Schotel keeping moving, preventing Aho from controlling successfully. Schotel throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Schotel is trying to control the position from the bottom.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Aho wants to control from the top but Schotel keeps moving.
That's one minute gone in the round. Schotel trying to keep a closed guard but Aho is proving a slippery customer.
Aho trying to control but Schotel is working from the bottom. Aho is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Schotel looking to hit a scissor sweep but Aho is one step ahead there. Aho avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Schotel is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Aho wants to pass the guard but Schotel is keeping the position. Aho is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at The Jungle Room that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Aho trying to control but Schotel is working from the bottom. Aho stopping the sweep attempt from Schotel. Aho stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Schotel swivels though and keeps the full guard. Schotel wants to sweep but no luck. Aho forces his way into half guard. Schotel is trying to maintain the position but Aho is very close to passing his half guard. Schotel regains full guard. Nicely done. Aho sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Schotel's guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Aho is thwarting Schotel's attempts to control the position. Aho is trying to control. Schotel wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Schotel is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Aho trying to control from Schotel's half guard. Schotel has other ideas though and has regained full guard. Aho passes Schotel's right leg, so he's now in half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Aho content to sit in half guard and control for a moment. Aho is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Schotel sees it coming and defends easily. Schotel felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it. Aho is looking for a kimura here.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Schotel is not content to let Aho control the position. Aho is looking for a kimura but Schotel is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Aho to get the leverage. The fighters are battling for position here. Schotel manages to regain full guard. Nice work. Aho tries to free his leg and advance position but Schotel is retaining full guard. Aho wants to control from the top but Schotel keeps moving. Schotel working a defensive guard here.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Aho passes Schotel's right leg, so he's now in half guard. Schotel manages to get to full guard.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Niklas Aho dominated that round. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Schotel misses with an uppercut. Aho uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Schotel. Aho avoids the body shot from Schotel.
Nice takedown defense from Schotel. No joy for Aho on that attempt. A big left from Schotel misses. Aho misses with a takedown and Schotel connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Schotel slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Schotel throws a body punch but Aho moves out of range. Aho half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range. Schotel throws the left hand but Aho avoids the punch easily. Aho uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Schotel.
Aho drops down looking for a counter takedown but Schotel sprawls and moves away. Aho steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Schotel.
That's one minute gone in the round. Schotel thuds a left hand into Aho's body. Dag Schotel seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Schotel throws a shot to the body.

Schotel missing with a left hand there. Aho was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Excellent takedown into side control there by Aho. Schotel is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Aho off and has taken his back! Aho tries to escape but Schotel has the hooks in and won't let him break free. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Schotel avoiding Aho 's attempts to control his hands. Schotel is hanging on to Aho's back as he tries to escape.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Schotel patiently working for the choke. Which fighter will keep their nerve here? Schotel looking for the choke from the back. I really don't envy Aho right now.
Schotel is not going to allow Aho to sit and survive in this position. Schotel is looking to control Aho but Aho is wriggling around and keeping busy. Aho can't escape the position.
Aho is taking damage to the body and head. Schotel throwing damaging strikes from the back! Aho could be in trouble here!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Schotel working for a choke but Aho is defending well.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:24 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Dag Schotel! After winning the bout, Dag Schotel thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
