PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mark Ceni (ranked 4037 p4p, 3648 weight class) and Pedro Dantas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Mark Ceni!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Pedro Dantas!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Robert Douchet and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Dantas clinches with his opponent.
Dantas fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Ceni tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Dantas just stands there and leans against the cage.

Dantas is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Ceni defends well.
Ceni wants to control from the top but Dantas keeps moving.
Ceni is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Ceni throws a big elbow that misses.
Ceni lands a couple of decent looking shots.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Ceni accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Dantas not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Ceni got a little sloppy there for a moment and Dantas has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Ceni has managed to get both his arms back between Dantas's legs - danger averted.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Ceni looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Ceni can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Dantas is looking to escape.
Dantas sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Ceni prevents Dantas from improving his position.
Dantas is not content to let Ceni control the position.

Ceni looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Dantas is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Ceni's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Ceni's back!

That was a close round but I would say that Mark Ceni will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Ceni avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Dantas has Ceni pulled in close to control his posture.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Ceni shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Dantas pinned against the cage. Dantas gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Ceni shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Dantas defends it nicely.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mark Ceni. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Dantas has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Ceni is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Dantas.

Ceni seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Dantas does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Mark Ceni.
I think Ceni has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
