Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jake Peterson (ranked 23125 p4p, 24308 weight class) and Mason Island (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Peterson might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Berzerk by Eminem. Jake Peterson has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 17 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jake Peterson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 10 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mason Island!
The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Summer Carpenter and Skip Squint.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Island tries to clinch but Peterson is having none of it.
Peterson defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Island.
Peterson misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Peterson swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Island ducks under a wild hook from Peterson.

Island drives through with a takedown into guard.

Peterson scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Peterson takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Island has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Peterson shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Island napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Island takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Island tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Peterson decides to stand back up.
Island lands a head kick. Peterson smiles back at him and beckons him forward.

It looks like Jake Peterson has been cut.

A combination from Peterson does no damage.
Island fails with a takedown attempt.
Peterson looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

and Island counters with a crisp one two that drops Peterson! Island thinks about following him to the mat for a moment but instead steps back and waves Peterson to his feet! Peterson is in big trouble!

Island drives through with a takedown into Peterson's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Peterson is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Island stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.

Peterson turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Peterson manages to end up in side control.

Island sneaks out the side door and pushes Peterson away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.

Peterson throws a head kick but Island moves out of range.
Island fails with a takedown attempt.
Jake Peterson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mason Island.
Peterson throws a series of punches but Island moves out of range.
Island displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Peterson.

Peterson gets a takedown into half guard.
Peterson wants to stand but Island has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
Island wants to control but Peterson is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Island is looking for a sweep. Peterson is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
We've been hearing that Peterson has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.
Peterson is looking to advance position but Island won't allow it.
Peterson really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Island is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Peterson is thwarting Island's attempts to control the position.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Peterson is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Island is looking to escape.
Peterson tries to pass the half guard into mount. Island knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Peterson has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Island defend it? Peterson steps over the head and cranks it - Island is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Peterson!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:08 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Jake Peterson!
Jake Peterson seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
