The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rizzuto Jr doesn't manage to clinch there - Michaels circles away.
Michaels is looking for the big counter here.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Rizzuto Jr enables Michaels to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Rizzuto Jr manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Michaels controls from within his opponent's guard.

Rizzuto Jr is looking for a triangle but Michaels pushes his legs off easily.

Michaels avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Michaels got a little sloppy there for a moment and Rizzuto Jr has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Michaels has managed to get both his arms back between Rizzuto Jr's legs - danger averted.

Rizzuto Jr working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Michaels doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Michaels manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Michaels wants to get up but he can't break Rizzuto Jr's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rizzuto Jr lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Rizzuto Jr tries to free his leg and advance position but Michaels is retaining full guard.
Michaels is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Michaels is taking a breather. Rizzuto Jr says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Rizzuto Jr is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Michaels pulls his head out easily.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
