PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Rex Gunn (ranked 238 p4p, 1423 weight class) and Shu Fang Tzeng (ranked 13 p4p, 75 weight class). Gunn's entrance music is Miami. A fine choice. Tzeng is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Mantra Chant. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 26 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Rex Gunn!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 25 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Shu Fang Tzeng!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Steve Erwin and Ben Hemmingworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gunn keeps the fight on the outside.

Gunn misses with a looping right.
Gunn sets himself, and Tzeng steps forward looking for the clinch! Gunn avoids it this time.
Tzeng steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Gunn.
Tzeng wants to counter the offense by Gunn and move into the clinch position.

Tzeng clinches up with Gunn and pushes him back against the cage.
Gunn lands a nice uppercut.

Gunn breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Tzeng slips under a jab from Gunn.
Tzeng tries to clinch but Gunn moves out of range.

A looping hook to the body misses from Gunn. Tzeng does a little dance to reset his feet.
Tzeng avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Tzeng tries to clinch
and Tzeng takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Tzeng takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Tzeng takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Gunn lands with a shot to the body.
Gunn throws out a loose jab but Tzeng uses good head movement to avoid it.
Gunn throws an ugly left hook that misses

and Tzeng counters with a takedown into side control.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Tzeng working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Gunn pushes Tzeng away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Tzeng gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Tzeng tries to move to full mount but Gunn actually manages to regain half guard.

Tzeng is working for a submission of some sort.
Gunn wants to get back to his feet.

Gunn makes his way to full guard, as Tzeng worked for a kimura.

Tzeng drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Gunn manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Tzeng has Gunn in his guard.

Tzeng felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

Gunn looks to throw the jab but Tzeng is out of range.
Gunn throws the left hand but Tzeng avoids the punch easily.
Tzeng slips a straight right by Gunn.
Gunn scores with a body shot.
Tzeng misses with a takedown attempt - Gunn sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Gunn is looking to counter punch.

Tzeng bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Gunn is trying to escape and get back to his feet.

Tzeng wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Gunn, who protects the arm well.

Tzeng swings around for an armbar but Gunn sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Tzeng's guard.
Gunn has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Gunn would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Tzeng throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Gunn escapes and throws Tzeng's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Tzeng escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Gunn gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Tzeng is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Gunn defends well.
Gunn wanted to stand there but Tzeng had control of the position.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
A big left from Gunn misses.
Gunn throws a looping overhand right but Tzeng ducks down to avoid it.
Tzeng wants to counter with a clinch but Gunn pushes him away.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Horrible takedown attempt by Tzeng or perhaps it was just good defense by Gunn, which made it look bad.

And that's the end of the fight!
Rex Gunn showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Gunn, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
