Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Carlos Costa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matt Thorne (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Costa comes to the cage accompanied by Champion Sound by DJ Marky (Total Science RMX). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Carlos Costa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Matt Thorne!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, William Peck and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Thorne tries to close the distance and clinch up but Costa swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Thorne tries to score with a low kick but Costa moves his leg out of the way.
Thorne misses with a wild body shot.
Thorne takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Costa slaps away a takedown attempt from Thorne, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Thorne drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Costa manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Costa winds up and cracks Thorne with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Costa has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Thorne is trying to stand.
Costa is taking a breather. Thorne says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Thorne looks like he's trying to stand up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Thorne has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Costa is working away from the top position though.
Costa looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Nice strikes from Costa there.
Costa frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Thorne really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Costa. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Costa can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Thorne is looking to escape.
Costa controlling the position easily from mount.
Costa moves to take his opponent's back.

Costa is working the ground and pound. Can Thorne escape?
Thorne is trapped and Costa is scoring with shots to the head and body.

Costa working for the rear naked choke here. He's got one arm under but Thorne is defending well. A couple of punches soften him up though and Costa has tightened the hold! This one could be all over! It is! Thorne taps out!
