PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Kazuo Takashi (ranked 26 p4p, 102 weight class) and Aiko San (ranked 5 p4p, 18 weight class). Takashi comes to the cage accompanied by 吉田兄弟 Rising. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 32 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Kazuo Takashi!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Aiko San!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, Sam Margolis and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Takashi closes the distance and pushes San back into the cage.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Takashi.
San is working Takashi over against the cage.
San lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
Still in the clinch, San scores with a nice short uppercut.
Takashi is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.

Takashi gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, San regains guard.
Takashi controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
San pulls Takashi in close to his closed guard and prevents Takashi from doing any damage or advancing position.
Takashi slips nicely into half guard.
San is looking to get back to full guard here but Takashi has managed to pass to side control instead.

Takashi looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if San can do anything to dispel that myth.

Takashi is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. San knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

San looks to move to half guard but instead Takashi has passed into mount! Damn!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Takashi is going oldschool here, as he tries to force San to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so San shrugs it off.
San tries to hold on but Takashi pushes him away.

San tries to control the position but Takashi now has his back.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Takashi is persistently looking for the submission but San is defending it well.

San just trying to survive but Takashi is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Takashi moves into the clinch.
Takashi is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.

Takashi blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Takashi changes levels and goes for a takedown here. San fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Takashi is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that San can do to turn this around?
San swings for the body but Takashi moves out of range.
Takashi changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.

San scores with a nice right hand.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
San clobbers Takashi with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.

and Takashi counters with a single leg into guard. San didn't expect that.
Oh Takashi is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
San managing to control the position.
Takashi seems to have got his legs back now.

Takashi trying to control the position from guard on top but San is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Takashi wants to pass the guard but San is keeping the position.
Takashi trying to control but San is working from the bottom.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Takashi passes into half guard.
San is trying is best to control the position here.
Takashi wants to free his trapped foot but San is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Takashi wants to advance to full mount but San doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.
Takashi wants to control from the top but San keeps moving.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

San throws an off balance right hand

and Takashi counters with a takedown into side control.

Takashi tries for a kimura but San is defending well.
San can't do much from the bottom here.
Takashi tries to move to mount but San blocks the move with his legs.
Takashi passes to full mount! That's big trouble for San!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Takashi takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Takashi has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
San has given up his back - I dont know if this is a deliberate ploy to try and escape or if he is just struggling down there.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
San is keeping busy.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

San lands with an uppercut that bounces Takashi off the cage and back into range.
San throws a hook but Takashi avoids it easily.
Takashi is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from San.
San throws a jab when Takashi was well out of range.
San waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Takashi.
Takashi steps to the side to avoid the strikes from San.
Takashi drops down looking for a counter takedown but San sprawls and moves away.
San thows a left - swing and a miss!
San looks to land a right hand but Takashi moved out of range.
San misses with a straight left.
Takashi is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from San.

Takashi gets cracked there but stands up to it.

Takashi has San up against the cage in a clinch.
Takashi has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. San is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

A short right from San on the inside.
Takashi has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. San avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Takashi blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Takashi doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
San lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
Takashi is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but San is defending well.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kazuo Takashi. That's going to take a lot out of him.
San throws a punch but it's blocked by Takashi.

Takashi tries to score a body lock takedown but San shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Takashi wants to stall.
San lands with a light punch inside.
Takashi blocks a body shot from San.
San throws a punch but it's blocked by Takashi.
A head punch on the inside from San fails to land.
Takashi is trying to stall.
San is working Takashi over against the cage.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Takashi has San pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. San manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

San throws a big uppercut that drops Takashi! More strikes from San and the referee jumps in to stop the fight! Takashi lies dazed against the cage as San celebrates with his cornermen!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:57 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Aiko San! Aiko San retains his lightweight title!
A very excited looking Aiko San made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
